Default AVG antivirus software

At present I'm using AVG 8.0 antivirus software(the free downloadable version) It has largly done it's job and my computer has stopped making a racket as it isn't working overtime due to viruses.

I had heard and read on other forums that it's said to be very effective and good software, however the only trouble is, I'm finding that my computer is now a little slow in doing it's tasks on the internet, could anyone suggest maybe better options for software and offer suggestions for firewalls and various other defences that PCs use as such.

I tend to down load them for free to start with, as I think it would workout to be an expensive exercise if they do not do the job as well as one would of hoped it might.

I'd appreciate any suggestions offers, cheers.

I've got AVG 8 and it doesn't seem to have affected the performance of my PC. Are you sure it isn't something else?

A good anti-virus which lets you trial the FULL version for 30 days is Nod32. No slow down, and always scanning.

Antivirus Software - from ESET

As far as I can tell there is no other problems that my various 'defence' programmes have thrown up will try another programme if need must, but cheers Willow.

Yes I've got that to but found it didn't make much difference, however so far AVG has been more effective, but just slightly slows my pc down, I'm possibly going to try Neal's suggestion soon to see if it makes any difference improvement wise, but cheers anyway Stoopslad for your suggestion.

I've just bookmarked the page that you link goes to Neal, as soon as the opportunity arises I'll set up the ESET anti-virus software and try it.

I'd do it sooner but I'm a bit pushed for time the minute, but thanks for your suggestion, it's much appreciated.
