Ok. We use Norton. It drives us barmy slowing everything to a standstill. Macafee has a bad name. So what do I use? We use Sophos at work but it does not seem available for residential use. There is AVG of course. Anything else that's good and reliable and doesn't bring the computer to a screaming halt everytime it rears it's 'orrible little head!!!!

My guess is she didn't download virus updates. That is totally necessary.

I now use antivir,it doesn't slow your computer down at all and updates automatically.Catches all bad files from p2p programs.

http://www.free-av.com/antivirus/allinonen.html

Give it a try.

Norton uses too many resources - Mcafee was ok for me but then it did start to use more resources from mountains of definition fiiles, just try the above!!

AVG for me, I and many colleagues have tried many various programs and AVG always comes out on tops, finding the most virii and being the leats to mess your PC up.

If only AVG did a free firewall too.

AVG is pretty good and I know of a couple of home businesses in the computer industry that use it.

I use norton internet security (Symantec) and it appears to work fine. Never had any problems, had loads with Mcafee though and so have other people I know who have used it.

I've just re-installed my computer and decided to try something else. Norton was starting to annoy me and is slowly going down hill. My machine started to run slow, scan takes forever and I had to re-start now and again as it came up with errors.

I now use www.zonealarm.com and www.nod32.com Nod 32 has come out top of all tests, costs only about £12 and doesn't slow the computer down one bit.

Hubby has stuck with Norton and of course still has the slow down. I put Norton in the same box as AOL (which I used to praise), they are too controlling.
