| Thought i'd pass this onto this site on behalf of the Official Supporters Club to spread the word & if there is anyone local or near to Accrington district that can help or donate ASFC memorabilia from old - new, especially old photos of the team in the heyday or earlier & anything else that will be of interest to the project. Please read to find out more or for contact details. Press release & taken from the OSC website & the Stanley forum. ACCRINGTON STANLEY’S SUPPORTERS CLUB AWARDED £48K FROM HERITAGE LOTTERY Accrington Stanley Supporters Club is pleased to announce that it has been awarded £48,000 from Heritage Lottery to run a project looking at the fans history of the club. The project, entitled THE CLUB THAT WOULDN’T DIE will take a year to realise and will involve the whole town. The project will culminate in an exhibition, education resource, workshops, community talks and events, CDs and a celebratory event. The aim of the project is to support Accrington Stanley, to promote the club and the supporters club and to generally create a feeling of excitement and positivity around the town and club. To be successful the supporters club is hoping that the whole town will become involved and support the project. To make this project a success the supporters club need volunteers to come forward to help out. Volunteers will be asked to either train to take oral histories, or they will get involved with collecting and collating photos and memorabilia or they will be asked to steward the exhibition or take people on trips. All volunteers will get full training in whichever role they choose to undertake. We also need supporters to come forward and tell us their stories and share with us their photographs. We want to hear about fans favourite matches and about special events in their life that coincide with matches. We want to hear from fathers who were absent from their children’s births because they HAD to be at a match or about couples who changed the time of their wedding because of a kick off or about fans who’s fathers took them to see their first match when they were very young. All of these stories, and many more, are important to the project. To get in touch with the project co-ordinators to offer your volunteer support or your stories please email stanleymad@googlemail.com Note to editors: 1) THE CLUB THAT WOULDN’T DIE project is funded by Heritage Lottery. 2) We would also like to talk to local press and media about how they can get involved and behind the project. Meetings can be arranged at your convenience for us to outline the project in more detail. 3) For further details relating to this press release contact Gayle Knight on 07767 383435 or Rob Russell on 07772 674824 If you can help please get in touch - many thanks! |
