| Earlier this week hubby and I were unfortunate enough to be involved in a 'sudden death at home'......this can be a harrowing experience for the people who find someone who has died at home....it can also be made much harder by the fact that you have to start searching for information about who to phone. I would ask you, if you have elderly neighbours, or relatives...that they compile a list of people to contact In Case of Emergency......next of Kin phone numbers....GP's phone number etc......these numbers are just as important if you find someone who is taken ill at home and cannot respond to questions. The ICE information(in case of emergency) can be stuck to the front of the fridge door. |

| It isn't a new idea, and I can't take the credit for thinking it up.....it was on Accyweb a few months ago...but it related to putting ICE numbers on your mobile phone.......but lots of elderly folk don't have mobile phones....but you still need to know who to contact in the case of emergency......so these numbers should be on a card in their purse/wallet.......and at home they should be on the fridge door. Please spread the word. Thankyou. |

| I think that this has been on TV here too.......and while they are good in the home, I think every older person should have the same kind of thing on a card in their purse or wallet....in case something happens when they are out and about. It is quite scary to be in the position of finding someone unresponsive, and not having any information. |

And, personally, I think it should be for everyone, as any of us could just collapse in the middle of the street. Lets be honest, if you saw a younger person acting like they were drunk, then collapsing would you assume they were in fact drunk/high on drugs or a diabetic having an hypo/hyper? |

| I already do this. Have ICE on my mobile phone with my families phone numbers on labelled ice1, ice2, ice3 etc. Have also an SOS Talisman round my neck always. In all the times though ive been ill outside the ambulancemen have never opened the necklace!!! Mind you i always come round and give them the details then.

| Glad to hear that you Jaysay, and you Jen are well prepared...spread the message. There are however, a lot of elderly folk who don't use mobiles...My Ma is one of them and most of the pesioners that we shop for do not have them....though to be honest, these folk rarely go out.........that is why I thought that the information could be on the outside of the fridge door...under one of the fridge magnets that these folk seem to collect. It isn't nice to have to rummage through folks drawers at a time when you are under some stress. |

| Good idea. I knew about the Ice for the mobile, but never thought about the fridge. I recently had to call my Nans Gp out, and ended up having to email my Dad in Cyprus for the name of her GP, He came back within minutes with the name and the telephone number, thank God for modern technology!! |

| Yes modern technology is a god send at times of stress....a good link between families separated by distance...so many of us in this day and age. Gone are the days when extended families all lived in one street. |
