Anyone ever suffered from stress? Do you still suffer from stress?
What did or do you do to overcome it?

My Husband, as an aircraft engineer, has a very 'high stress' job. After all, a mistake by him or anyone under him, could cause someones death.
I suffer a bit, but I am such a hot-head, I tend to blow it off. But the truth is, I am not truly happy without stress.

I find going for a walk helps me when I'm stressed, helps clear the mind. I have tried meditation too but with a 4 year old running round the house its not easy!
Just doing something that helps you switch off is good. |

It depends on the stress I think. Some stress can be beneficial as it gets your adrenalin going but negative stress can be quite debilitating. I once had a job where I couldn't do right for doing wrong in the eyes of the manager. If there were two ways of doing a thing whichever one I chose would be the wrong one. It became so stressful that I actually ended up being physically ill and that was a blessing because it forced me to take a step back and look at the overall picture and realise that the manager was an idiot and trying to please him was a waste of effort.
Realising that there are some things you cannot change and just accepting that is a big help. Even if those things are things that would be beneficial if you could change them. One of the best pieces of advice I've ever been given is: You can't do anything about how other people act but you can control how you react. and Learn the difference between the things you can change and the things you can't. Do something about the former and learn to live with the latter.

It took me five years to come to terms with the fact that I had some sort of breakdown? to this day I will never know what? happened, but I can remember that darkness! no peace or quiet, seemed to be a continuous question and answer game? why? me Lord, why? me? This is the first time that I have ever written this down, please accept that I have felt a need to respond to your question? ![]() |

Well done, you have made a huge move forward. I have suffered panic attacks most of my life. Whether I have ever had a breakdown, I don't know. But a violent early marriage stunted me for some years after it was all over. This why, as I said in an earlier post, I need some stress, I don't function well with out it.

Before i had my stroke i had anxeity attacks and quite a while before that , saw a lady who worked with a alternative therapy treatment called emotionall tapping! She said she worked with people,s fears ! I did have this fear from being a small child you will laugh when i tell you what it is. (I will save that bit until later). Anyway i told her what my fear was and she asked me to repeat what it was and then to visualize that fear as she tapped me around the top region of my heart! After this treatment of being tapped with her fingertips , she asked me to visualize again the fear i had, had . It had gone ! Whether it was mind over matter or what i dont know? Looking at a book on self massage last week tapping is recommended for bad circulation on the inside of the legs and arms, for freeing arteries ! My fear was of a man in a monkey suit! which at the circus threw a bucket of pretend water at me ! Strange how the mind works dont you think?

My advice to anybody reading this thread? accept that there could be a time in your life when? you might suffer worry and anxiety for a justifiable reason. Here is the key, as I see it, do not allow these negative thoughts to take over your daily life. You need to address what? is causing this anxiety? am I doing something in my life that I could change? perhaps by removing the cause of your anxiety, you might start to understand why? you feel the way you do.
Let me tell you a story about a dear friend who had three chairs in his room, when I used to visit, I had to sit on his bed, one day I asked why? I could not sit on the chairs. He explained to me passionately that their were three people in the room with us! Jesus, Bob Marley and the devil, could I not see the in depth discussion taking place about the purpose of life. I could not respond to the question, for fear that I might offend one or the other. This friend also gave me an insight to the life of somebody living on the street, he always said that people would throw a few pennies into his hat with conditions? have you been to the council to get home?why dont' you get a job.His reasoning was that if you donate to any cause then it should be unconditional, the act of giving is for the person giving not the recipient? Think about that piece of advice from a street person? |
