| There are lots of dog roses as hedges in the borough......all along Hyndburn Road......and Aldi have them around their boundary. I understand that you can't really tell how effective they are if you make your own tea....and i suppose those from the hedges would need a thorough wash......another thing that I found out....you have to remove the seeds from the inside......they have got little hairs on them and cause digestive upsets or what the aborigines call 'itchy bottom disease'....well, that made me chuckle a bit. You really wouldn't want itchy bottom disease....it could be socially embarrassing. I also found that the hips have to be dried......and that if you collect them after there has been a frost they are sweeter. Apparently to make the tea you just infuse a tablespoon of the dried rose hips in some boiling water for 2-5 mins......you can add a pinch of cinnamon or ginger if you like and then you strain the hips out and drink the fluid.....oh, and it can be sweetened with a little honey. So all in all, I have learnt quite a bit about rose hips. I think the pills might be a lot less trouble. |

| I love that - 'itchy bottom disease' :biggrin1: I wonder if it's possible to buy dried rosehips? At one time there were oodles of herb shops where you could get things like that. I suppose the powers that be would prefer to protect us from ourselves these days. Somehow natural remedies don't seem quite so natural to me when they come in tablet form.

| I am the only female in my family not to have osteoarthritis, There are two differences between them and me, I am veggie and I have been drinking Rose hip tea every day for about 40 years. I had no idea it was any good for me I just liked the taste, but could be a big factor as I am already 20 years older than my mum when she was first diagnosed. this is the one I drink. Grabbed the spare pack and took a photo. PS rose hip on its own does not taste that good. ![]() |

| I take Glucosamine. I used to have really twingey joints and sometimes my knees would give way going up or coming down stairs. This can be a bit of a problem and once actually caused me to fall down the stairs. Since taking the Glucosamine I haven't had as much of a problem. I still do get the odd twinge in my knee if I'm sitting for any length of time and have to stretch my legs out. This can be a pain if travelling far in a friend's car as there is very little leg room and if I can't stretch out the I'm in absolute agony. People don't understand how sometimes it's far more comfortable for me to stand than sit. On Sundays we have 3 hours at church which is divided up into two classes and the sacrament meeting. My second class is currently located in the chapel and I'm in the same seat that I stay in for the sacrament meeting. I just have to go walkabout between the two. I cannot cope to sit in the same place for a couple of hours. At home I have to plan my day so that I do little bits of standing up and little bits of sitting down. If I'm ironing I'll do 3 shirts then do a bit of something on the computer, then do 3 more shirts. So I'm up and down all day long. I'm hoping my joints will get easier as I lose weight but that's happening very gradually. At least it IS happening at last now I'm on the new medication so there's a bit of light at the end of that particular tunnel although it may be a longer tunnel than I'd like it to be. I'm lighter now than I was in the Summer and if I can lose the same amount by this summer it should start to look like I'm making progress. By this time next year I should have achieved my initial goal. Then I can start to look at how feasable it may be to lose more. I'm always open to any advice though regarding alternative medicine because many conventional treatments have not helped me in the slightest. I'm also very fond of fruit teas and it's really lovely when I go to get my nails done that I can also have a nice drink of something warm and fruity. I love all the advice and recommendations from fellow Burnley-webbers. Now who was it who got one of those Q-link things? Does it do anything for you?
