I use a deodorant crystal. You just wet it and rub it onto your pits....it doesn't have any perfume, it works and it doesn't irritate my chest as sprays do...or my skin as some of the roll-ons do.

Yes, but very gradually. I bought a huge chunk of crystal in the Kuranda Market in OZ in september 2004....and I am still using it.
It is very good for taking the sting out of mosquito bites too.
I also have a small stick of the stuff which is in my travel bag for when I'm off on my jaunts with Ma.

I dare say that it would probably be an old Aboriginal remedy as a deodorant and remedy for insect bites, I think the western world could learn a lot from these indiginous folks.
