How many of you have had electricity bills this week? Mine arrived yesterday and I was gob smacked at the total because it was from June which should be the cheapest period of the year. In a shop I heard someone saying that she had been upset at the price on her bill and had checked the meter reading and found it was way over what she had used. Checking my meter I found that I was being overcharged by over £20. So I have asked for a new bill, why should they have £20 of my money for electricity I haven't used? By the way, just imagine the amount of money they will if they have overcharged every household with their estimated bills, plus the interest of course. Think it is worth checking your reading?

I saw a report on the news some time last week, that there is a strong chance of power cuts over the winter. This is due to the fact that they only just have enough power and do'nt have a lot of spare capacity. It told you to get candles and a torch just in case. I was only young but I remember the power cuts of the 70's and the thought of that again is frightening.

Methinks I'll be getting the batteries charged up & the wind generator put together this winter. I usually keep a rechargeable torch in every corner, fully charged for this occurence. I too remember those 70's power cuts, despite being young then. Don't want that agin ta. maybe we should build our own dnorwig (however it's spelt).

yeah i think u spelt it right. i think that we should build nuclear, as i no everyone thinks its dangerous, but lets be honest, coal oil n gas are gonna run out shortly. no bady wants these windfarms, so the only other viable alternative is nuclear.

Anyone noticed the water co. advertising how good they are and how lucky we are to have them? - Expect a big price-hike in your water rates next time. I'd rather have a windfarm next to my house than a nuclear/fossil fuel power station. I'd have one on my roof if it was practical/legal. What about geo-thermal heat exchangers for new-build housing and public buildings? Made with energy-efficient recyclable materials. Surely Burnley would be a great place to implement this new(ish) technology with all the plans for new buildings flying about at the moment.

Geo-thermal systems are too expensive around £9k and to make a saving over the cost of a gasfired cetral heating system would take about 30 yrs. Which is one reason why I can't see either councils or housebuilders incorporating the systems in the near future.

| what about the news that pylons etc are causing children to get cancer etc if that is so then the electric board will no dought raise the bills again to pay out the inevitable compensation ,!
