Default Dentist

Went to the dentist yesterday, my normal 6 monthly MOT, came out happy for a change, didn't cost me out. I'm one of the unlucky ones who's dentist went private about 4 years ago, I know I said it didn't cost me nout but in fact that ain't strictly true, I have a dental plan which cost me about £12.50 a month, for which I get two check-ups a year and 20% of any dental work I require, this time last year it cost me £200 to have a crown replaced about three years ago it was £500 for a small denture with three teethe. If I have one pulled its about £65 or a filling £45. At my time of life this is getting worrying as the old nashers have got a lot of miles on the clock or steaks under the belt, the trouble is I've had this dentist for over fourty years and getting one on the NHS in this area ain't very good, think I may just send the bill next time to Gordon down at number 10, I suppose he can't claim it back on exes

As soon as i got there the receptionist wanted £15.95.up front ,, she said it was for a compulsary check up ,so i said what just so he can tell me i have no teeth...
She said it dident work like that, but IT WILL be deducted from the final bill ..its going to take untill easter to finaly get them...so i am not a happy bunny at the moment...

I understand what you've both said, where I am it's hard to find a NHS dentists so you have no choice as to where you go and yes I agree, it costs quite a few bob and thats just for a check-up yet alone any kind of treatment.

Although one should obviously go for regular check-ups, should you miss one or perhaps a certain number they strike you off the list which is a bind, as I said I don't have one near me, and that granted, private one can be like that as well.

Last time I when to an NHS dentist was in Nelson, Redferns, I think they were called if memory serves me right, anyway that's over ten years ago and didn't find them a bad dentists, not sure what they are like now, if indeed they are still going that is.

I'm one of the lucky ones who so far (touch wood) still has an NHS dentist. Busman unfortunately hasn't and has got one of those monthly plans. I do begrudge paying for something like this though when we all pay NI anyway.

You and me alike Willow, its alright for the politicians on their wages, but when you have to watch the pennies, a monthly plan is expensive and even moreso if you actually need treatment

When my dentist went private, she only kept on some of her patients and I was one of the unlucky ones left searching for a new dentist. I struggled for ages trying to find one, and ended up ringing the NHS helpline to help locate one. The nearest one they could find was in Wigan! Bearing in mind I don't drive, and I have to make up my hours at work when I go to the dentist, it obviously wasn't an option, so I had to go private. I got myself a great new dentist, but I begrudge paying full NHS contributions - I think those of us who have had to go private should pay a reduced amount.

Hope your new teeth are worth it Granny.

I wonder if we'll ever get enough dentists to fill this new place we've got in Accrington. Lovely new state of the art building apparently.
