Smile Wow - I caught a fish!!

Well, despite many months in trying I actually caught a fish this weekend, I went for a trip along the canal & caught a nice Jack Pike.

However it has slipped away before I managed to change the batteries in my digital camera

Never mind.

Mind you, I doubt I will be going back to the canal again, I walked the entire length off Pendle way looking for a spot to fish.

I could not find a single 2m wide stretch that was not covered in dog poo. Grrr!

So I think that it's back off to the Lowerhouse lodge for me.

Yeah, yeah...bet it was massive as well :D

The dog dirt issue on there is one that us cyclists experience too. Not so bad getting it on your tyres, it's when it flung up at you from them. :(

I often used to play dirt dodging (actually called something else!) when cycling to work.

The fish was only about 14" long & 1lb ish but it was a fish... biggest pike I have caught in 20 years :D

Stepped on my landing net pole & squashed/broke it. had to cut & glue it so now its .5m shorter, lol.

Default any good spots fore night fishing?

would be interested to know of any good lakes for a spot of night fishing in the better weather, i usually go for carp, although if any of your lakes hold cat fish, wouldnt mind a bash at them, i live down south and havent got many lakes round my way that hold cats, any suggestions gratefully received, thanks. re dog mess, get on to enviroment agency or local council about clearing it up.

Hmm, thats an idea about the dog mess but I doubt they would see it as something that needs doing.

As for lakes with cats in (meoowww), we have a small lodge that has a couple in but mainly carp.
Other than that there "was" a very big one in another local lake but because it was fed by a river the EA made them remove it.

So now I have no idea, sorry.

RE: Dog mess, If it got cleaned up it would soon be messy again, The dog walkers must know they are not going to get fined down there. Dogs off leads can be a bit dangerous as well, many a time I've had to take evasive action from some crazy dog that seems intent on throwing itself under the wheels of my bike! I guess it's something I'll just have to put up with, I wouldn't want to stop people taking their dogs off the lead on the canal, I just wish they had more control over their dogs.
Other people that get on my nerves are thoughtless fishermen who dump all their gear/rods across the towpath, a minority and usually kids.

I used to work with a lady who's husband did a lot of fishing in and around Burnley Matty,he used to go to Ireland to fish in contests and always seemed to win something, the fish in the rivers etc at one time had to be tough to survive the toxic waste in the water, have you tried fishing near Hapton I've no idea what fish they got in there but it was a good place(no pun) to see fishermen?

No, I have thought about it as I have seen quite a few there.

TBH I don't really get that many chances to go because we are usualy too busy to enable me to have a day off & I have to let her indoors have the odd day off too :D

One day/year/decade I may even get to go to Pendle View in Clitheroe & pay oodles for the chance of catching bigguns :D
