I know it is a boring subject ! but i wish i could hibernate at this time of year. I hate January, especially when its wet and cold. My neck aches when i stand at the bus stop waiting for buses that are often late . Having a chat to local folk is the only thing that i enjoy, Then the weather comes up again in conversation. But i suppose we are lucky compared to some who are flooded out. First time i have put some washing out since back end today !

I usually hate January, but this year it's not so bad. I love the British weather, always have. I also love extremes of weather, lots of rain, lots of snow, fog, sun whatever. One thing I cannot abide and loath with every nerve in my body - is heat!

For this reason, when it gets above 25, the AC goes on and I hide. The thought of going on holiday to somewhere hot would quite simply appall me.

For me the best weather is about 70f with just a lite breeze, I don't like it to called or to hot

I hate the cold wet and damp. But more than that I hate snow so I suppose it could be worse from my point of view.

I love being warm and wish I lived somewhere warmer and dryer than this, but we too have been lucky not to be flooded. We have had a minor problem with the roof following that Tuesday night with the horrendous storm but that has now been fixed. For a while I was soaking up water with towels around the area in the bathroom where the water was coming in! £850 worth of repair but hopefully we should be getting some of that back from the insurance.

That must have been awful Willow! talking of towels i went to the Boundary Mill sale and looked at peoples baskets. Which seemed to contain lots of people purchasing white towels! How impractical i think they are! The store was heaving with it being the busiest ive ever seenit be . It was four oclock on Thursday, i just bought some M&S underwear and left it at that , but might look in again tomorrow?

Sorry to hear about that Willow, I really feel for those people still living in caravans after the last big flood. With the thought that it could easily happen again and they'd be back to square one.

I feel for them as well, but not only for flooding but insurance must cost an arm and a leg and I think will probably go up even more if they claim on the flood damage.

I though it was once said in the news that people living in flood risk areas wouldn't be able to get insurance unless the government spent a considerable sum of money on better flood defenses.

Should that be the case and I'm not aware to the best of me knowlage that's the case as of yet, then should they have any more issues with flooding then their in for a real hard time, I don't envy them thats for sure.

Suppose that is one advantage of living in the Pennines .. no flood plains (I don't think ?).

I seem to be in a bad position when the winds blow for tiles blowing off, but not so bad as Willows .. that was definintely a bummer Willow, hope you sorted soon.

Feel a little sorry for my friend this week .. she moved to Spain few years ago, mainly because hated our weather and loves the sun. Arrived for a stay for a few days with her hubby on Thursday to the weather she most hates, wind and rain ! Ya' feel a bit like apololgising don't you .. however, thinks she knew what to expect and is now on the look out for extra strong hold hair spray, of which I can definitely point her in the right direction.

Bit of bad luck that Willow, but glad you got it sorted quickly. I'm lucky that way I live in a ground floor flat and if there are any problems HH sort them out. The only problem I had, which may affect other people who live in council or housing ass propeties are window breakages. Obviously I only have contents insurance which in most cases does not cover windows, I found that out to my cost when some drunk put my kitchen window in one Staturday night, I was not covered and it cost me £120, it was a double grazed unit. However I found out that as it was then HBC did a contents insurance, through Norwich Union, specially for councils which covers windows too, and its no different in price than what I was paying before and with the same coverage

There are hundreds of people still living in caravans here and my step-daughter was flooded but she was fortunate and got her own builder and now has a brand new down stairs and moved in pretty quick.
