| To be honest, I think it's more of a working class thing. It's just that more people down south think they are middle class...whatever, and are FAR too busy with their hectic lifestyle to bother about being friendly. I sometimes think we are catching up with them though. ![]()

| But they pay so much more than us that they can afford to be like that :D It think that people are friendly wherever you go, it's just that there are unfriendly people too & you happen to meet them first. I can remember some very friendly people from down there & I know of some very unfriendly people up here. Unless the thinner air up here makes our brains more mellowed? lol |

| i think we are more friendly up north we arent as stressed and rushing about as some southern people. ive nothing against them they just seem a little pre occupied with stuff rather than being friendly and polite.

| This question is a bit more involved than it first seems. It all depends where you are and where you come from. In the north, you could be a northerner in a place like Hume in Manchester which is quite an UNfriendly place, or you could be in Todmorden which in my experience is a friendly place. There are small villages in the north where newcomers, no matter where they come from, are most cirtainly made to feel unwelcome by the locals who have lived there for generations, but there are also villages where newcomers are welcomed with open arms. It's probably the same in the south. Parts of London can be like a war zone, other parts can be nice and friendly. But take a northerner and place them in the south or vice versa, and you're bound to get people treating you like typical steriotypes. I've seen Cocknys in Burnley getting a hard time over their accent because of the steriotypical "Eastenders, bit dodgy, flash harry, Del Boy" label. Likewise I've seen perfectly polite southerners with a posh accent getting stick for the "Lords and Ladies, oity toity, upper crust" label. Similarly, northerners in the south seem to get lumped together under the "poor, uneducated" label. Both north a south claim to be the friendliest, I personally think it's a myth that one is friendlier than the other because wherever you go, there is always a mixture of friendly and unfriendly people. |

| I've played in bands all over Britain from the South coast to Scotland and the frindliest people I've ever played to were in Lochgelly, just south of Edinburgh. The most unfriendly is a tossup between Rhyl in Wales and Rochdale. |
