We've been wanting to change ISP but fear being mucked about like this. It must be so very frustrating. I'd hate to be cut off for that length of time. It's no joke.

I got my MAC code from AOL in two days. I said if they did not give it to me now, I would not only take it to Trading Standards but, Which and the local press.

I believe there is a law in the pipeline to make them give it to you in two days.

That report she has made is going to ofcom, trading standards, watchdog, sun newspaper, news of the world, gmtv, and a copy of it is going to orange so they know what is being said about them!!!

Freeserve now orange did the same to my mate, mucked her about with getting a mac code & messed about with her DD so to delay to mac code further, she complained & with help from BT whom she was transferring to sorted her out in the end, so its not the 1st time they have done it!! They tried same with me before they changed to orange & bt helped me out by pushing it so got mine, so in a way thumbsup bt lol.

So B.T have one standard for people joining them and a different one for those trying to leave....I think they STINK

I've never had any major problems with bt, tho i have with freeserve/orange.

AOL is supposed to be the worst, but I think the guy on the phone knew I was not going to give an inch. I do feel for Bernie though, I would feel like I'd had my right arm chopped off.

Sorry for sounding thick, but what's a MAC code? When you change servers do you not just start again? I'm on my 4th internet provider and i'm sure each time i just started from fresh.

Its like a serial number provided by your ISP so that if you do change provider u must tell them the MAC code in order to register with them, without it you cant, i think its so that dodgey folk cant move ISP's illegitimately or wrack a ill up & not pay it to then go with someone else etc.
