Default Woman, 84, discharged in nightie

An 84-year-old woman has complained about Hereford County Hospital after having to find her own way home in her night dress at 0300 GMT.

Yvonne Slater was treated for a leg injury in the hospital's accident and emergency unit on New Year's Day night.
After being discharged, she had to pay £80 for a taxi to take her 25 miles home to Ashford Carbonel, Shropshire. The hospital said it was aware of Mrs Slater's complaint and said it was investigating.

That is absolutely disgusting. Supposing she didn't have the money at home to pay for the taxi fare?

I agree, totally. I hope she is due for some compensation as well as that money back. I also hope someones job swings.

Why in Gods name was she discharged at that time of night on her own? Surely they could have found her a bed for the night and waited for a patients ambulance to take her home later in the morning? I know that there is a bed crisis at this time of the year, but that takes the biscuit.

I think its wishful thinking Sweetpea, does any one ever get what they deserve in cases like this, they may be investigating the insident, but don't hold your breath thinking somebody will be broughtto book, they never are

She could do with someone fighting her corner for her because they deserve to be taken to court over it.

You get all those "injury lawyers for you" type ads. Maybe the legal profession is missing out on a possible market with "NHS claims for you".

It's enough to make you wonder what you pay tax and national insurance contributions towards, it's no wonder people who can afford it go private.

To me it seems this country's gone to the dogs, or I get the strong impression that it has or isn't far off at least. The NHS certainly has thats for sure.

The fact that this has made it to national news, makes me think someone is.

Oh come on James we have to remember all those nice people who come here for free health care at our expence. Remember Boy Blairs statement on the 30th April 1997 "Only 24 hours to save the NHS" numptie

When my son was about 4 months old I got a nasty bug, after visiting the bathroom for about the 20th time I fainted. Only problem I was at the top of the stairs when this happened. I ended up at the bottom of the stairs and was taken to hopital in an ambulance as I had fallen further than my height. After spending a couple of hours in casualty I was discharged at 4.10am with a sickbowl. I had no money, no keys and nothing on my feet as my slippers had been left in the ambulance. I asked for transport home and was told I had to stand outside and wait for a taxi. Just dont be ill thats all I can say!
