Default Working Mothers

What do you think? I personally find that I need a job, I also appreciate the time I spend with my son more....

I suppose it depends on the individual and circumstances. I'd rather be at home when my children were small.

Home when they were small, work when they were older.

It's surprising how things have changed. At one time it was just normal that a mother would stay at home with her children and the idea of leaving them and going out to work would be frowned upon - unless you were really posh and had a Nanny. Now some people look down on mothers who don't work and regard them as lazy.

I didn't return to work after my maternity leave ended and spent another 6 months at home before returning to work for 2 days a week. I worked full time for 13 years before I had my son and in some respects found it quite difficult when at home without adult conversation. I now work part time 5 days a week and really enjoy the balance. That said I'm glad I spent the first year at home with him.

I went back to work when Alice was 8 months old, only work weekends and maybe a few hours during the week if they are short, but that depends on whether my other half is home from work to look after her for a few hours during the week for me to go in. If not, then I dont go to work.
I'm lucky that I can just work weekends in my line of work. It would be nice to stay off work until she goes to school, but we couldnt afford for me not to work, and by doing weekends, Alice is being looked after by her mum and dad, rather than childminders.

Think I have the best of both worlds, a job thta I can pick and choose my hours arround Alice. I think the rest of the nurses were quite relieved when I started and said I could only do weekends! Mind, it does involve doing 2 12 hour shifts back to back, which is a bit of a killer! But, what the heck, I'm working, and Alice gets looked after by her mummy and her daddy!
