Once again the authorities are trying to get the public to report on fly tipping around the town. Is it too simplistic to think that one of the main problems is the high cost of actually taking rubbish to the tips if you have more than will fit in a car boot?
You can take rubbish on a trailer if it only has two wheels, any more and you have to pay. The same applies if you hire a van to take rubbish, you have to pay once again on top of the cost of the hire. Surely the easiest way would be not to charge at all and then more people would take the rubbish to the proper place instead of dumping it on waste ground or in beauty spots. |

I agree those who collect waste as a business should pay for tipping. But it is those who are wanting to get rid of household waste that are charged as well at times. I had new fencing put up and the council wouldn't pick up the old said I had to take it to the tip myself. The only way I could do it was to hire a van and they wanted to charge me because they said it was commercial waste.

I have an estate car so almost anything will fit into/on it, even sofa's.
If I want rid of something PDQ I don't mind taking it to the tip myself, it's open till 7PM every day. However, the dumping of ordinary household kitchen bin waste is inescusable, it's collected every week. Rang council, they said the'd sort it out. We'll see, took a week last time & they left some. IU can also see a neighbours back yard filling up with rubbish, won't be long before she is chucking it on the back street. Where is Captain Cleanup when you want him. |
