Default Oakhill Park Bandstand

Some time ago the bandstand in Oakhill Park was burned down. Hyndburn Mela and Community Festival are just one of the many organisations that used that bandstand each year. Since it was burned down it's cost us an extra £2,500 each year to hold the event because we've had to hire a stage. The insurance money has finally been delivered to the council and they are in the process of sorting the bandstand out. This is good news!

However, the so called Friends of Oakhill Park are campaigning for the bandstand to NOT be rebuilt. Their argument is that it was vandalised once and it will encourage vandals to do it again which is a really defeatist approach.

Obviously, Hyndburn Mela and Community Festival are affected by this financially but equally other activities and groups are affected. This bandstand is a feature of the park and has been there many, many years, to not rebuild it would be a shame. Plus, should we cave in to vandals? There is a great need for this bandstand to be rebuilt, we should not let the vandals or Friends of Oakhill Park get the better of it.
Please sign this petition which will be submitted at a meeting on 1st November and tell the council that the bandstand should be rebuilt.

Maybe a compromise is in order...commission a flame-proof bandstand.

Its not often I agree with Gayle on anything but I do on this, we would only be giving in to vandals and adding more expence to organisations who use the Park. Maybe the building can be made out of materials tht don't burn easily

Totally agree with you Gayle. We should not be defeatist and give in to vandals. It's a lame arguement anyway because if they want to vandalise they'll find something else to vandalise. It's not just bandstands that attract them.

I hope my signature on the petition went through. I seem to have got stuck on the donation page.
