Smile Family traditions-Things you do pass on.

My little grandaughter aged three doesnt like having her face wiped! as most kids dont! I ended up singing her a song as i did so and she really likes this song. It goes- Sally go round the sun ,
Sally go round the moon,
Sally go round the chimney pots on a Monday afternoon- (thats the bit where i wipe her nose)
its funny i cant think where this song came from but it may have been passed down from my mother - Does anyone remember this or know more bits of it?
Last week she was on a fairground roundabout and started singing it as she was going round and round and my daughter felt quite emotional as she sang it slowly and clearly over and over again!

Is that the one that goes on to say "over the moon and under the stars"? My mum sings that when wiping my niece and nephews faces. Least she doesn't use saliva anymore!

I love all the old nursery rhymes, do kids still learn them? I do hope so.

They should be handed down, as they are our bits of history too!
There was a man lived in the moon, lived in the moon, lived in the moon
and his name is Aikin Drum is another old one. ( cant remember any more)

I'd never heard that before. I must have missed out on Mother Goose. It's a shame that some children don't seem to do nursery rhymes any more and all the interference making things liek "Baa, baa Rainbow Sheep" doesn't help.

ooh the P.C brigrade would have a field day with some nursary ryhmes

just for you,

Aiken Drum

There was a man lived in the moon,
Lived in the moon, lived in the moon
There was a man lived in the moon,
And his name was Aiken Drum.

Chorus
And he played upon a ladle,
a ladle, a ladle
And he played upon a ladle,
and his name was Aiken Drum.

And his hat was made of good cream cheese,
of good cream cheese, of good cream cheese,
And his hat was made of good cream cheese
And his name was Aiken Drum.

Chorus

And his coat was made of good roast beef,
of good roast beef, of good roast beef,
And his coat was made of good roast beef,
And his name was Aiken Drum.

Chorus

And his buttons made of penny loaves,
of penny loaves, of penny loaves,
And his buttons made of penny loaves,
And his name was Aiken Drum.

Chorus

And his breeches made of haggis bags
of haggis bags, of haggis bags
And his breeches made of haggis bags,
and his name was Aiken Drum.

oooh you beat me to it.....I was going to post the full version last night but I couldn't remember it all....it came back to me in the night.
We also used to sing a verse about his shirt being made of fresh baked bread.
I love the old nursery rhymes.

IF ever we said if my mum would recite.

If Wishes were Horses...

If wishes were horses then beggars would ride,

If turnips were swords I'd have one by my side.
If 'ifs' and hands were pots and pans
There would be no need for tinkers hands!

Aiken Drum sounds familiar. I think I can imagine hearing someone sing that.
