Naff or Cool ?

Last time 25 year old son came home, had these naff black and white furry covered dominoes hanging from his mirror in his car.

"Son, why you got those naff black and white furry dominoes hanging from rear view mirror?"

Son, (cooly condescending) : "Mum, that's the point they are so naff they are cool" :noidea:

Humph . will have one of those nodding Churchill dogs next, or flying ducks on the wall

Ok .. can't say my taste is of the very best, but looks like I will have to get into this new fashion.

Must admit have this clock (brother brought me back from Canada). Mother Owl with big amber eyes, clock face on breast, extension of two little baby owls on a branch. Yep, tis naff, but love it. Perhaps I can be labelled as cool then.

Any of you cool ?

Never heard of furry dominos - only dice. I believe the first people to hang these from the rearview mirror were American hotrodders back in the 1940's-60's (cool). Later adopted in the 80's by Gary Lager types to hang up in their Escort XR3i's and Capris' (not cool).
I think furry dice could look cool nowadays, but the car would have to be right - you can't just hang them up in anything and expect it to be considered cool.

I've never had them, so I guess I'm not cool...daddyo!

Flippin hek Col. did I say dominoes ? .. he he .. well, meant dice actually, same diffence though, both start with 'D' and black and white with spots !

Ollie .. whatever floats yer boat I suppose, s'long as not obstructing your view or inciting fans of rival clubs to say 'Hello' whilst you out and about (ok sanctimonious bit over with).

Don't particularly like decorating a car ... was one car always parked at the top of the entry into our car park .. must have had about twelve nodding dogs on the back ..must be distracting for anyone travelling behind her, watching all these little heads moving up and down.

Hate most of the stickers too .. as you do tend to creep up a little close to see what they say :).. some quite funny. Next door has one 'Grandchild on board' only obvious grandchild not there very often .. how daft is that ?

In the olden days it used to be those stickers that you could buy at seaside places...they used to be plastered all over the back windows.
I hate stuff like that in cars....the only thing I used to have in my car was an air freshener.....and that was out of sight.

My home might have a bit of clutter, but my car was always tidy!

I'm not keen on stuff stuck on cars or dangling in cars but we do have a few things stuck inside the caravan but only tastefully.

Never had dangly dice or nodding dogs but they do seem to have become very popular again.

We do have a 'birdy clock' which instead of numbers has different bird pictures so if someone asks the time it could be a cuckoo to blackbird o'clock.

I look after a couple of cats for a family in our street,(when they go on their hols) and the first time I looked after them I was scared out of my skin.....they have a disney clock with Characters on.....on the hour the appropriate character says their own catchphrase.......I was in the kitchen cleaning out the litter tray when one of these characters said something......up i jumped an nearly brained myself on the worktop.....i thought there was someone in the house with me.
When i told the two little boys they thought it was absolutely hilarious and told all their friends.

Not into any kind of superfluous tat on my cars, one trend nowadays is having a 'shopping list' emblazoned on the side of the car, originally they were all the names of manufacturers of parts used on the car but it seems anything goes now - think jap tuner names on citroen saxos.

I've had to de-badge my toyota in order to respray it and most of them are staying off - less is more and all that! No fishtanks in the dashboard and pc's in the glovebox for me ta, I'll keep the (standard) 'screaming chicken' badge and clear back window visor thing though.

You used to be able to buy venetian blinds for the back window of Triumph Heralds, they were quite sought after when had one, as not many survived but they still looked naff.
