Local East Lancs singer headlines Rossendale Mela this year Local East Lancs singer headlines Rossendale Mela Nasir Khan, originally from Burnley and internationally recognised, will be headlining Rossendale Mela next week. Nasir Khan’s first album release was called “Sensation” and from that came the big hit single “Sohney nain”. This song’s video was number one for seven weeks on the Zee music channel. Now moving on to his new project which he will be releasing through the well known label “Movie box” UK and will be released in the UK very soon. Nasir will be accompanied by DJ NAS-T (MC) from Blackburn. The album Sensation, is an east meets west style of hip hop, dance and traditional music, which was released on the Pan Rhythm Productions label. Rossendale Mela is a multi cultural music festival on the afternoon of Saturday 23rd from 1-6pm, at Marl Pits, Rawtenstall and is part of the Rossendale Weekend. Also performing are Batala drummers. Batala is a form of Samba Drum music which originates in Salvador de Bahia in North Eastern Brazil. Batala performed at the recent England V Brazil football match, the first one to be played at the newly opened Wembley Staduim. The powerful and hypnotic big drum sound captures the vitality of Brazilian culture and produces an exciting fusion of rhythm, movement and costume. Also performing are Save The Day, Saharans, Anna Purna Dance and Remedy. There will be plenty of activities going on around the field, including arts and crafts, juggling and tasty food.
