| I felt the same, leave it till they are older, with my first. It was horrid. She nearly screamed the place down and found it very traumatic all the way through, with sore ears etc. With my next girl, I had them done when she was about 8 months old. She hardly noticed and all went well with the healing.

| I hate seeing children with earings. It's their choice and when they can make their mind up and understand pain and other important matters, then they can have them done in my opinion. Amelia will not be having her ears pierced until she's in her teens however, if she chooses.

| Believe me she will be asking long before that. Jo my eldest chose to. Heather didn't but now makes pieced ear rings to sell. My decision was made because of my own experience. My Nan's were done. I asked my Mum if I could have mine done (at about 11) too. She said no, and no, and no, every time I asked. I asked my Nan why her Mum let her get hers done. She didn't. She was told 'no' too, so she did them herself. So, I did mine, borrowed a pair of sleepers off my mate and Bob's your uncle. I would not want my daughters, who are both just like me, to do that.

| I never wanted to have my ears pierced until i saw a lovely pair of gold earring in the shape of a knot......I asked if I could have them in Clip ons and they said 'no....they're only suitable for pierced ears'. I didn't have them done straight away, but when I passed my state finals my hubby said he would buy them for me if I wanted to have my ears pierced. I was scared witless and told the guy at Val-Hal I didn't know which was worst...having my ears pierced or having a baby....he just said 'Well, make up your mind - I can alter the chair for either' Anyway, i did have them done.....but I WAS 30 at the time....and it hurt! Yeah I know.......I'm a great big mardy. |

| The only reason I would not have had my daughter's pierced as a baby is purely, in my opinion, it looks ridiculous .. a baby's face is beautiful enough without gold studs in its ears. Thought myself, as mentioned, could be classed as some sort of physical abuse, after all, doesn't heal up completely and if offspring doesn't like when old enough; ya' never know, could lead to claims later in life the way 'blaim culture' is heading. I also believe that human beings have a right to chose their own paths in life (although can't totally dismiss the influence your own leanings have on them, can you ?). i.e would never have dreamed of christening my children (atheist anyway) just to please the majority thinking .. this is like putting their name down for a Political party at birth .. just as bad as ear piercing in my opinion. Better be off, eh ?>>>>>>>>>>>>>> |

| Mine both asked - both at different ages. The eldest, who had hers done when she was younger than the younger one was when she had hers done, wears earrings all the time and has quite a collection. The youngest only wears them when she thinks about it - the rest of the time she doesn't but that's more because she's as dizzy as they come and just forgets. She wanted them pierced and asked me - it was never suggested to either of them. The conversation with the eldest went something like: Her: I want ear 'oles. Me: (not understanding) You've got ear holes (thinking she just meant her ears.) Her: I WANT ear'oles. Mummy got ear 'oles, Granma got ear'oles. I WANT EAR 'OLES! Me: Everybody has ear holes (just thinking she meant ears) Her: No they do not. Daddy got no ear 'oles cos Daddy don't wear earrings! That was when it dawned.

| I dont like baby,s ears pierced! I would not let my daughter have hers done until she was sixteen. I have had mine done but was a late teenager. Im not old fashioned but just think they look cheap. Baby,s dont need this adornment. My son wanted his doing and i talked him out of it, dont like men wearing jewellery and hate tatoo,s too! |
