Default Memories

I got to thinking today about my earliest childhood memory.

I was 3 years old and I was sat on my grandmas stairs scoffing space invader crisps. I remember suddenly feeling very sick and spewed all my crisps back all over her carpet. She was a lovely women and immediately panicked thinking there was something wrong with me. Nothing was wrong, apart from the 5 bags of crisps I had just scoffed lol.:sorry:

My earliest memories are of my grandparents too. My Grandad used to let me do whatever I wanted including 'cutting up' which involved cutting pieces of paper into tiny bits - but I would do it on my Gran's pegged rag rug. It must have been murder for her to get the bits out of.

Another early memory is of feeding giant hens which my mind tells me were at least 5 feet tall but bear in mind I was 3 years old at the time so they were probably normal sized hens! The stuff my Grandad used to cook for them I can still smell in my mind.

I think mine is laying in bed, looking through the open curtains, watching search light beams sweeping across the sky crossing over each other and then sweeping back. This was a couple of years after the end of the war but they still tested them every night.

Oh I bet you was soooo frightened  I feel sorry for anyone who has lived through a war. My heart goes out to some of my residents that I look after.

I can't imagine what it must have been like to live through the war. I hope we never have to experience that again.

Has to be when my dad bought me a toy guitar at 4. Thought it was great though the sound was somewhat primitive. Annoyed the hell out of his alsation with it and think thats why it hated me.

I was born about six months before it ended, during an air raid mum couldnt go down to the shelter as sh was in labour. I have always jumped out of my skin at any load bang and still do. We moved to Portsmouth shortly after, well what was left of it. That is where the search lights were, watching the solent.

I remember being in nursery playing on the karts in the playground on a sunny day and then going towards the sandpit.

And then same as you, being sick in the kitchen as my dad walked in. We lived on Lower Mead Drive then, I was about 3 also.

I would like to know peoples' memories of the wars, I have a great interest in that. What the elders went through.

In my job I hear it all the time and it terrifies me just listening to it, so what it must have felt like to live through it ....( shudders) I don't want to know.

I got the nick name poppy from a wartime radio show called "itma" not sure the spelling is right. It was my dads favourite there was a character called "poppy poo pa". (I was a weekend pass) and a bit of a shock they didn't expect. lol

Mine is being trusted enough to carry a lamp to the house we were moving into - think i was about 4. Mum was fed up of me going backwards and forwards over the gardens and saying i want to carry something - and so she gave me a lamp to carry over. I can remember carrying it in both hands held out in front of me.

By the way i still live in the house we moved into!!! lol
