Metric ?? See we have been given relief again, due to pressure of the metric martyrs, for avoiding the inevitable of eventually going metric.
Ok, being an oldy and love our traditions and ways, find it very hard to picture weights/measurements in cms, and certainly very labouring when you are explaining a measurement to someone as 137 x 137 cms instead of 54 x 54".
Can also understand will be a huge job amending all the road signs, however, we soon got used to the new money, didn't we?
Our children are now being taught metric in schools (still running along side Imperial, I think), but became apparent when my 24-year old son queried my statement that on this day, the temperature was 72 degrees F. "Mum, says he, speak English" !!! ... thought I was !! "Ok, son, that will be 72 - 32 x 5 and divide by 9 .. Ah, that is 22 C " Must admit, as we go abroad more for holidays, getting more used to centigrade meself.
We have got half way there .. best now to go the whole measure, don't you think ? |
