(too traumatic for them). What's wrong with punk and rap anyway? When I listen to punk nowadays, it sounds a lot more edgy and energetic than most 'alternative' music of today - who may I add, probably wouldn't even exist had it not been for punk. Can't say I'm a fan of rap music in general, but there's good and bad in all genres of music, I don't like to dismiss any musical form as 'crap' cos there's always something that can surprise you - it's what I like about music. I still don't understand how Rythem and Blues turned into what is now called RnB - I don't see the link

| If I hadn't become a musician, I'd be listening to Heavy Metal and nothing else, that's why I learned to play a guitar, because I wanted to be in a Heavy Metal band. That was almost 25 years ago, nowadays I listen to anything from Mozart to Motorhead and everything inbetween, because being a musician makes you appreciate every different style of music going and how it's all related anyway. Take blues for example, originally from Africa, it was the music of the slaves but if you speed it up, it becomes rock 'n' roll. Add a bit of distortion and a guitar solo, then you have Heavy Metal. Then if you shorten the tunes, speed them up and make them more basic and aggressive and get rid of the solo, you have punk rock. Then if you cross breed punk with heavy metal you have thrash/hardcore. Any of these styles can be crossed with each other or other styles to make new styles, eg. rock 'n' roll + country = rockabilly, heavy metal + rap = hip hop. All this from basic three chord music played to a 4-4 back beat, (blues) it's amazing how it evolves and changes and being a musician lets me explore and experiment with every bit of it. So, you'd expect me to vote "other" but infact I voted Heavy Metal because that's where I started, and I still like Motorhead more than anything else! :D |
