Default Towneley Hall

can anyone shed any light on why they have started charging an entry fee, but its free if you live in Burnley???

Towneley Hall is open from 12-5pm Saturday to Thursday, closed Fridays and is free to Burnley residents. The park is open until dusk everyday.

my dad went today and a woman tried to charge him £3.50 to get in, thats no way to get tourists in is it??

That's a shame I like dropping in there a lot in the summer, how much are they charging, and how do they know who is from Burnley.
I shall just stop going in if it is too much and just have a mooch round the garden.

just been talking about this on accyweb, its £3.50 each to get in, and they ask you for your address and postcode before you can get in free (as a Burnley resident)

Am I right in thinking they've started charging for parking now as well? I think they are shooting themselves in the foot with this one, I think they would like to charge residents if they could but would not get away with it.

Sounds like it would alienate visitors from other areas asking for a Burnley postcode...."You're not from round here, pay up!"

That's a classic lesson in how not to attract visitors.

The council held a questionnaire last year and parking fees were not well liked so they said they would not be introduced but the area near the hall has been all marked out and a £60 fine if you do not park in the marked bays, I also believe that parking fees will start in June. Regular visitors will be able to get a season ticket for £40 but this does not guarantee you a parking place.

Why would you want a season ticket? Are they hoping that people will want to go every week?

If my daughter could get a season ticket for castles she would. Zoo's have them so I dont suppose Townley hall would be different.
