Default Cannabis debate!

Well now, after Bez's victory in Big Brother, it seems to have sparked off a debate concerning drugs. As we all know drugs like heroin, cocain, amphetamines ect. are really bad and you just shouldn't do them, but cannabis is becoming more and more accepted in society in general.
Should it be legalised?

Even though it's supposed to be a "gateway" to other drugs and that a large percentage of cannabis sales profits go to criminal organisations and terrorists?

...but then there's all sorts of different kinds of cannabis, the strength can vary immensely and can be abused which sometimes leads to psycological problems...I don't have any answers. If everyone who used it did so knowing the dangers, didn't abuse it or work machinery (for example) under the influence of it I'd say make it legal, but you can't guarentee any of these things.

I think that people who take drugs are free to do so as long as they pay duty on it like I pay for my drug booze.I feel that if they know the risks like drinkers and smokers then they ca'nt turn round and bleat if they suffer the side effects.I would'nt personaly touch em with a barge pole but I wo'nt stop others.

Personally, I believe that the benefits of growing the plant itself as a crop far outweighs the risks of drug abuse associated with it.
From the hemp plant you can produce polimers, (or plastics) medicinal drugs, cotton like fabrics, oils, (both for fuel and lubricants) and the plant itself actually enriches the ground it grows in with nutrients that other crops need. In other words, farmers who have to leave a field free from any crops every year, on a rotation plan to let it recover nutrients lost growing the previous crop, could instead plant hemp and make extra profits.
No one has been proven to have ever died of a cannabis overdose, although a risk of cancer cannot be ruled out (especially if the drug is taken with tobacco) but on the whole it would appear to be a safer recreational drug than alcohol.
I think it should be legalised, but only government controlled crops should be made available for sale as a recreational drug, at a price that matches current street prices, to combat the criminal element.

But you wouldn't would you.

Grow your own cannabis & make anything from the plant other than people "high".

Don't get me wrong Mattylad, I enjoy the odd smoke now and then but I'm just pointing out the other advantages of legalising cannabis.
I really can't understand why the government haven't made steps towards legalisation, after all, adding cannabis to the list of legaly grown crops could create a whole new industry, employing thousands of people, and also ease up the prison overpopulation problem overnight.

I think it should be legalized its not exactly stopping people who smoke cannabis now so making it legal isnt going to suddenly make everyone do it. we can call it the Stoned Age :p

No need to feel out of your league Granny, everyone's opinion is valuable!

How do you feel about alcohol and tobacco?
