Default being charged for paying your bills.

just been watching tonights watchdog on telly and its good to know that they are backing the people who are being chaarged anything upto £5 for not paying thier blls by DD its a shambles i think for it to be happening in the first place... dont these companies make enough money out of us without charging us for paying our bills..

yeah but why should they dictate to us how we pay our bills one woman had been with bt for donkeys years always payed her bill cash ,on time and never failed, now they tell her if she continues to pay cash she will be charged for it , im sorry but that aint right ...

Good advice, never pay bill's or any other service by direct debit, you are giving the recipient the right to take whatever they wish from your account, this is done to facilitate the changes mainly increasing their charge for the service, without the need for you to inform the bank to pay more. The safest method is to pay by 'standing order' this way the only money they get is what you stipulate at the time of making the order, any price rises they wish to impose can only be done by asking you to upgrade the 'standing order', they cannot penalise you for paying this way.

Absolutely........ianw... my hubby hates DD and wherever we have to go through the bank we try and go for standing order....

direct debit means they can take what they want and when ,, standing order means that you say what and when,,,
They upgraded our electric account from £37 a month to £84.because it was about £10.short at last years winter bill. now we are loads in credit...
