| I have been using win98SE at home since it came out, it works fine on broadband. It's more a case of the PC hardware, if thats slow with not a lot of RAM or little hard drive space left (full cache & temp folders) then that might slow you down a little, but the broadband won't be a problem. |

| Your post looks like it was typed faster too...lol Glad it works. Did anyone know the proposed updates to NTL's broadband? 300K gets upgraded to 1mb same price 750K gets upgraded to 2mb same price 1.5mb gets upgraded to 3mb same price There might be a £25 upgrade fee though, esp as you may need a new set top box. And there are proposals to launch a 100mb service too. All rumour at the moment until NTL confirm it. And then it's usualy just "coming soon". |

| I purchased Win XP Home Edition for £89.99 from PC World as I love XP (Well I did!). I did a full disc format to clear everything, but you can just install the disc in Win98 and it sorts it all out I believe. However, I connect via a Sagem F@st modem on Tiscali and this worked fine on 98SE. On Win XP, it just keeps shutting down at times. I've also tried a different modem (BT Voyager ADSL Modem) and this does the same. I've spoken to Microsoft who are slightly puzzled as the phone line, modem and ADSL are fine as on my laptop running Win98 it works fine. It's as if the USB port just shuts down. I'm purchasing a new computer soon, probably from dell.com, so we'll see how things go. I think it's the VIA motherboard and because Win XP is using a lot of resources. My computer may not be able to handle it. I have had a coupld of USB bandwidth error messages too. But, i'll stick with XP, it's great!

| ...and it's nothing to do with windows firewall or virus software either, as it does it on a fresh install with all these off.
