Lancashire Warmth

It is inevitable that I post the same general information here as I do on the Accrington Web Forum.

I have been gone from Burnley fifty six years now. Every time I come back for a visit I am always warmly welcomed by my surviving cousins, old school friends, former neighbors, et al. Unfortunately, I find their numbers shrinking alarmingly when I visit these days. I soon revert to my "Lanky" idioms, speech mannerisms and eating habits -- black puddings and tripe & trotters (what happened to the UCP?).

To me, the real heart of Lancashire warmth is to be found from Accrington and its surrounding area -- including Oswaldtwistle, Church, Rishton, etc. through the Burnley area -- including Hapton Valley, Rosegrove, Lowerhouse, Padiham, Haslingden, Nelson and Colne and over to Rawtenstall, Bacup and Todmorden (even though the latter is borderline White Rose country). That area coincidentally covers most of my teenage Lancashire League Cricket and Saturday night dancing venues.

I'm a Londoner (East London), but I well remember, black pudding, trotters and tripe and cow heal.

We have had a friend staying , he hasnt lived in Burnley for many a year he straight away got his accent back . Ate pork scratchings as much as possible, even though they contain pigs snouts ughh! cant abide them Shopped at Boundary Mill and braved the continuous rain we had last week!

People will always get a warm welcome in the area. Kiki I have lived in Scotland for 16 years and havnt really lost my accent it just becomes a bit refined so that people understand me. Mind you its fun after a visit back home and my accent is as broad as ever. :D

I spent 8 years with a beefy Glaswegian, I love the Scottish accent, from wherever it comes.

The "weegy" accent is unique but try getting your lugs around Doric.

Doric is very gutteral and takes some getting used to. Yon Cameron dude who won Big Brother has a mild form of it.

Thats a good 2 hours drive away. Bit like saying that Burnley aint that far from Stoke. Besides you will never get a warm a welcome as in Lancashire.

We had a lovely hamper delievered from Orkney yesterday! Very healthy stuff,Various packets of smoked Salmon, Crab, dIfferent relishes one sea weed ,cheeses, oatmeal biscuit,s shortbread, puffy wafer biscuitsand fudge

Well, that I have already had. We went up to Blackpool to meet the crowd from Blackpool web. I had a really good day.
