Question 24 hour drinking.

In three weeks time pubs and clubs can open 24 hours a day if they get permission.
What do you think?
I think most pubs will open till midnight during the week and 1am weekends, clubs will open till dawn at weekends,I think it's a good thing, why should you have to rush down drinks at 11pm?Just because a small number of people ca'nt take their ale it should'nt stop the rest of us having a late drink.I think pubs should stop selling cheap shots and alco pops, and stick the booze muppets in a drunk tank and fine em when they cause trouble. As for clubs once pubs open later they will have to do more to get you in and I bet silly dress codes will go.I think it's a change long over due.

I'd like the idea of licenced premises being able to stay open longer if we had a maturer attitude towards alcohol that most other countries seem to have. This will not automatically come in with 24 hour opening unfortunatly, and I fear we will just get more fights, assaults, violent behaviour, mess and busier casualty departments.
I hope I'm wrong, it's about time we were treated like adults and not told when we can drink - might inspire some self control and make people feel responsible for their own actions...something that is long overdue. I won't hold my breath for it though.

its only the local pubs that seem to still shut at 11pm in Burnley most of the down town pubs already stay open till 1 and 2am . No matter if its 11pm or 2am you will always have people causing trouble when they have had a skinfull.i think they should maybe extend the local pub times then its up to them if they wish to stay open.

How long will it be before the prices go up to pay for the extra staff needed to stay open all the time?
Don't think it will make the slightest difference to those who binge drink at all, or mean less trouble on the streets.

I don't see the point really. The only people who will want to drink at 6 o'clock in the morning will be those that have had too much to drink already.

I suspect we're going to have people turning up to work drunk.

Seriously, the only people that 24 hour drinking has any advantage to is the people who fancy a pint after finishing a night shift.

With the amount of lock-ins at my old local, I can imagine 24/7 drinking to be very popular in some areas!

Would be handy when I go back to nursing and fancy a drink after my night shift though!

I used to live right smack bang in the centre of a main clubbing town - we couldn't sleep until gone 5am, especially at weekends, because of all the noise of revellers leaving clubs all night! I'd dread this happening with the pubs too!

anyone thought about how much extra will be put on the police part of the council tax bills to finance the extra policing the 24 drinking will demand?

If you cant sup enough ale in the time the pub's are open now, then there is something sadly wrong. Better to have late opening at AA meetings.

it shud be ok in towns, and the bars/clubs.pubs, should have to pay for adequate security when its needed.also in my opoinion the drinking age should be lowered to 16, as most underage people have a drink, and its better to be in a pub/bar than out on the street, and waiting for someone to go in a shop for you(and may i add, i dont drink on the streets, and have never waited outside a shop), and it would also stop shops having to close because they have been caught selling to under 18s.

I was drinking in pubs before I was 18 Jasey but you need an age limit if we brought it down to 16yrs then 14 and 15 year olds would want it lowering as well. I treat teenagers as young adults and if they can take their drink and behave then I'd turn a blind eye! Other countries serve younger people but in the U.S.A it's 21 I think thats a bit harsh!
