Jasey, earthquakes are caused by continental plates grinding together, it's a natural, if unfortunate, phenomenom that's been happening for millions of years and will continue to happen for millions of years to come.
They are not caused by a magical being that lives in the sky but is also everywhere else at once.
Comets, now there's something that could wipe the lot of us out.
There are literally hundreds of comets, asteroids and meteors that we know of that regularly cross the path of earths orbit around the sun and probably millions more traveling towards our solar system through deep space.
Fortunately, unlike millions of years ago when the last major extinction that was caused by a collision with a "heavenly body" happened, we're more intellegent now and due to being able to detect an asteroid heading our way and also having the transport and technical knowhow to evacuate the area where it'll hit, plus our knowledge of underground tunneling and artificial heating that we'll need after a major collision of this kind, (the sun will be blocked out, causing great temperature drops) I think at least half of us would survive even this catastrophie.
Given a few more generations, we'll probably have the capability to evacuate the earth to a different planet. |
