Angry New house & I get Poisoned !!

Okidoki, I have just moved.
House seems fine.
Put central heating on, it works ok.

I go up into the loft to clear out any rubbish, move a bit out (about 15 mins).
Also noticed that the boiler flue does not fit into the vent properly so it's been venting into the loft.
So there it is, I have been up there for 15 mins & breathed it in.
This morning I felt absolutely sick, headache, body aches, feeling sick etc.
(either it was the gas or a bad pint & I only had 1).

Pushing the flue back into the vent stops the boiler working.
So today I have had some Corgi engineers around.
They condemned the system & capped it off.
The boiler is fitted with 15mm pipe instead of 22mm for the gas supply, the boiler is at an angle not vetical, ther flue vent its the wrong type.

A total cowboy job.
Grrr!

It's gonna cost me £400 to put it right.
Goto redo the suply piping, rehang the boiler, revent it properly, also fitting new cooker toboot. (so IMO £400 isn't too bad).

So hopefully by Sunday evening I might be able to get warm again.

P.S. I cannot reply until I get net back, I'm at the library at the mo.

If you have just moved house, did they not discover this when the survey was done?
Or is this sort of thing not covered?
Sounds like it was mis-sold to me and surely you would have some recourse with the estate agents.
that said
they are all in it together, them buggers (allegedly of course).
In whose interests is it for house prices to be so high?
certainly not first-time buyers like me - no sniff. And peolpe with a house who want to move, usually have to buy an equally expensive house - so no gain there then!!!!!

you wouldve had a buyers guide thingy wouldnt you..where the seller ticks the boxes etc was this covered in that? The way selling houses are done these days all points to making the buyer happy..this sort of thing is definately covered in a survey and you have a legitimate right to make a claim...have you paid your solicitor yet? Who did the survey? Find out what you can do to get the costs at least back.

Did you have a survey as well as the valuation survey for the mortgage?

You are lucky Matty the house could have gone up or you and your family could have died in their sleep. Get some legal advice,or go to the C.A.B
Used to flat share with Digsy in Cleveleys years ago and the place we rented had a gas fire and every time it was on we would feel sleepy. Never thought it was gas poisoning at the time.

It was mentioned on the survey that the heating system had aspects that require looking into.

So the valuation surveyer is covered.

Might try & get it claimed back from the sellers though.

However, there is alos the dipping of the lights when the shower is turned on, the floorboards that have been cut to access underneath removed not properly supported so have several springy ones etc.
Oh, and the prat put the kitchen sink plumbing straght over the top of the gas stopcock so it cannot be turned off!

I'll be fixing these little problems, apart from that the house is fine & am well impressed.

Pleased you are more upbeat about your move now. Sounds as if the previous owners were either inexperienced DIY freaks or they engaged cowboy workmen to do the jobs.

Loads of DIY'ers end up in hospital, get killed and wreck the house after watching them DIY shows. It may look easy on the telly, but just think on, they may have just done it once or twice before.

ON one side they seem to be a nice older couple, however on the other the odler fella has just left... was it something we did? :D

A young couple with kids have moved in, so hopefully they will be ok.
