But we are the reason that cod and other fish are going extinct so why should we start hunting the whale again to stop it eating the fish when that is it's only diet, we have plenty of choice on what we can eat.

Cool Re: Is It right to start hunting Whales again?

Eating animals is not good, but id not condem anyone for doing it. However in the intrests of keeping a long term balanced and sustainable ecosystem i would hope we could at the very least differentiate between farmed and wild creatures. So no its not ok and for the japanese to hear the world protest this traversty and not be moved to stop, well that says something about them.

ps. great thread people! hey poppy you are great

Just to throw a spanner in the works - if species that whales feed on were becoming endangered would that justify culling whales?

I don't have a problem with people hunting whales for food if the stocks can sustain it and it's done as humanely as possible. What winds me up is how the Japanese are saying they are killing 1000 minky whales a year supposedly for "research" - That's 7000 tonnes of whale.
I'm not judgemental about what is considered okay to eat in other countries/cultures, as long as the creatures are respected and treated well. Not everybody has cows, chickens, pigs and sheep to raise for food and some people still have to hunt for their meat.

I tend to agree with that Col. especially the Japs using research as an excuse

Of course it is an excuse, a total load of poo, Ok Col I won't harpoon your car.
I get email alerts about Sea Shepherd and Greenpeace every day. At the moment hey have managed to stop the ships from hunting for a while, hopefully they will be able to keep on harassing them for the rest of the hunting season, and stop the hunt altogether.

See how controlled my post is, I want to jump up and down screaming and shouting, this is one of my big issues, but I am trying to be calmer. I didn't even mention craponese idiots in big boats.
