Bank charges

Anyone ever been charged £40 for a letter/email from their bank saying you have gone over your limit etc. Did you know this is unlawful and you have a right to claim that money back?

Thanks for the info pmhread!!:thumbsup: I hope everyone that gets ripped off by the banks! gets their money back then!!The banks make a mint out of us punters!! I've been told that I'd be charged £5 if I got my money out of my bank at the counter!! So I went to the cash point!!

a couple of years ago I got a thirty pound charge because they had to represent a cheque I had cashed for a friend when his pay hadnt gone into his account on the day it was supposed too. he was OK I ennded up out of pocket!

I hope you appealled. I would and have. Just about always successfully! But then again, I often come accross more trouble than I'm worth...lol

My bank is a total pain. Halifax refused to budge at all despite me having a current account/ISA and share dealing account...not any more though...shifted it all to smile.co.uk who seem to have been ok so far. Halifax even tried to charge me twice for copy statements even though they cocked up the first time....even speaking to someone higher up the food chain didn't help.... think I'll try and speak to Howard himself next time.... Halifax...always taking that little bit extra...

I know a few that don't have bank accounts. I don't think we could function without one. We are with NatWest and are treated very well!
