| Cars and planes and lorries and stuff like that kill alot of people, not just by direct collision, but by aggrivating lung complaints, my friend died from asthma in London when he was 28 during the height of the summer when car pollution is at its peak. In the 60's as im sure you know, the government of the day introduced the clean air act, particurlaly in response to the number of deaths caused by the great smogs in London. The irony is, more people die today from aggrivated lung complaints than did then, the difference is, that modern pollutants don't make your snot go black (not to put to fine a point on it) and as such are invisible, but make no mistake, cars emit soot, carbon monoxide, benzene or lead and a whole shotgun blast of chemical nasties. They do it at just the right height to poisen very small people in buggys more than any other group. So if you are unfortunate enough to have small children and no car to ferry them about in, you and your kids are the ones who absorb the toxins and act in effect as unpaid air fresheners. Obvously fags kill kids too, but you can protect your kids from fags by not smoking, taking them to the pub, or buying them 10 B&H to go with their alko pops. You cant protect yourself from car fumes, they are omnipresent, 24/7 it just hangs there, the poisen we all create and breathe. Fags, as bad as they are (im a smoker) are just the tip of the iceberg. |

By the way, do you fly, do you drive? |

| Round & round we go... there was a rather stupid rule being discussed for introduction, a 1 metre clearance area around the bar. Funny but smoke can neither read nor measure distance when meandering throughout the pub :) |

| I know im a freak for being able to say this but: I have never been on a plane, and i dont have a car, nor do i drive. I do love a smoke, and i like to have an open fire. Its definitly true that lead, benzene, and carbon monoxide are poisenous, and that they aggrivate asthma and asthma is not a minor illness, lots of people every year die from asthma, many of dont come into regular contact with cigerettes. |

then they would moan about having to pay more money to us in our ripe old age!!Enjoy yourself it's later than you think!!! |

| Smokers will always throw up as many, scuse pun, smoke screens as they can to defend that which is a dangerous and dirty habit. Not to mention, the exorbitant amont of money it costs the NHS each year to treat smoking related diseases. |

It won't make many people give up, just cost the licencing trade in lost revenue. I'd love to have a viable alternative to using a car, but the infrastructure ain't there, I work all over the place, I have lots of equipment to carry around, a bus/train is out of the question. I ride a bike, but it's not practical for anything other than leisure. I could live without cheap airflights, I think the current obsession with weekend euro breaks is not the right road to go down. The airlines should be paying for the mess they make and if that means expensive flights - so be it.

| Airlines and aeroplane munufacturers have cleaned up their act no end in the last few years, and the situation is improving all the time. The same story with cars, slowly they are getting better. They are a necesarry evil. The humble fag, remains the same, more or less and is not necesarry at all. |

I love the dangerous side of it as I like taking risks, so is joyriding but I dont do that. Its also my secret weapon, heres a hint here guys..... when out drinking and you bump into someone you dont like and want to escape their grasp, just spark up a fag and BLOW, BLOW, BLOW, go on take the biggest puff you've ever had and Blowwwwwww but be carefull you may get arrested the following day for attempted murder or even worse MURDER, I shred to think. Hopefully you understand those that do want to smoke, yes it is a dirty habbit and it does make you smell quite awfull, I know because I did have a short break in kicking the habbit (4mth), unfortuneate circumstances got the better of me and the will crumbled away like an oxo cube! I must state that I personally respect those that do not smoke (99%) so I try to restrain in lighting one up! Most of all this is only my opinion and hopefully I haven't offended any individual here within this thread. |

| I used to be a 20 a day girl. One day, I just stopped. That was twenty 24 years ago. My life has been far from ideal, but I never went back. It was also the best thing I ever did. May I point out that, while the amount of money spent on people with this habit is obscene, it's the beds they take up that is the true crime. Please, do not get me started on Illegal Imigrants/Assylum Seakers. |

I am having to think very hard at the moment, although I need my dentist to scrape away the the staining created by tobacco smoke and foodstuffs, etc at a staggering amount of £34.18p per MONTH just to keep on the books WITHOUT any correctional work, this fee is for only 2 check-ups and 3 hygene visits per year on the Denplan service........ ITS DISGUSTING and that also makes me want to smoke even more (might open another thread here). Labour policies are very scatty..... just look at the local rabble that they keep voting in around ere! I simply cant believe ppl still moan then do nothing about it, its your right, use it wisely or your future wont be yours! |
