Default Beer is the news.

Now it may be bad news for bitter drinkers,we are now drinking less and less bitter and we tend to have wine and larger instead. I've pinched this info from a paper yesturday.
The top selling beers are....

1 Stella Artois £591.8 million
2 Carling £318.0 milliom
3 Fosters £256.8 millon
4 Budwweiser £150.9 million
5 Carlsberg £126.3 million
6 Kronenbourg 1664 £122.0 million
7 Grolsh £116.1 million
8 Carlsberg Export £97.2 millon
9 Tennents £65.8 million
10 Guinness £63.9 million
The only bitter to make the top 20 beers sold is John Smiths Extra smooth at number 14 and sold £49.6 millon. So in the future will it be the bitter end?
Any thoughts on this? I have to say I do like larger and drink Becks if I can.

No wonder the English brewers are going out of business. The only two from the British Isles are Guinness from Ireland and Tennents from Scotland.

I heard that Boddington's (the cream of Manchester) was moving production from Strangeways to Preston!
If I go to a pub I tend to go for something that looks popular, because I've had too many dodgy pints due to choosing a beer that might have been past it's best. I drink Guinness original cans - but would have to have a lot of confidence in the pub I was in to buy a pint of draught.

The newspaper article was saying that Boddingtons had been brewing beer in Manchester for over 200 years, and poor sales ment it had to close. At one point 9 out of every 10 pints pulled was bitter. The paper was saying that unless trends change the bitter drinker is a dying breed. As is the Eccles cake eater! We are votein with our feet or in this case throats.

the worst brand of beer must be Labats. If any Canuks take offence sorry but it was crap. I think the Germans make the best beer. The laws of beer making over there say that only water, hops and malt can be used. I've always wanted to go to the October fest in Munich.

I agree totally about Labatt's, unfortunatly it's the only beer sold at Manchester Apollo. It's enough to put me off going - it's rubbish!
