Angry Naming and Shaming

Yesterday I read Sara Payne's book about the murder of her daughter which has made me very angry for obvious reasons but has also incensed me further today.
I,ve been googling about the Sarah Payne murder and then about "sarahs law" and naming and shaming.
I want to know why its not ok to name and shame sex offenders living locally but its ok to name and shame...or at least threaten to...teenagers with asbos?
...Yes, i know the usual arguements bout vigilantes etc...not a good enough arguement in my opinion!!
I want to know why I cant be aware of perverts living close to my child??
I dont want to know an exact address..i just want to know how close.

well of course they should be named and shamed if they decide to be evil and sick and do the horrid crimes they do they why shouldnt they be exposed for it?
they like to show off saying how they did and what they did in my opinion they should be hung.
naming and shaming would give us all the opportunity to keep our kids away if there is any in our areas which there shouldnt be.the law in this country protects all the criminals and perverts the innocent people are the ones who suffer

When I hear the words 'Human rights' it makes me mad. People who cross a certain undefined line, lose all human rights in my book. Do-gooders - Grrrrrrr!

Anything like this upsets me, especially as I have a little girl. They should all be named and shamed, most do re-offend and I have the right to know where a sex offender lives, or what street if not their full address.

If they commit the crime, they should do their time.

I too have heard all the arguments about vigilantes etc but I would prefer to know if there was a pervert/paedophile living close to me so that I could ensure my children stayed well clear.

I feel these people gave up any claim to human rights when they committed such a terrible crime.

i think they should be named but they say they cant cus of vigilantes and that .. i have 3 kids and id hate to think of of sex offender living next door or even close to me has id like to think my kids are safe playing out doors and not worry ..

But then where do sex offenders go in the end. ive been asking this for along time ..

I for one think sex offenders should be locked up and the key tossed away or build a prison just for sex ofenders and there not out in the commuinty ..

but then they say were treating them like animals but ummm what about the kids at the end of the day !! how was they treated .

Good points, I think we should be allowed to know a street that the person lives on, not a full address, so we know to keep our children away. I agree that people make mistakes and deserve a 2nd chance, but what type of chance can you give to this group of people, you hear an awful lot about them re-offending which is the worrying part for me and my family.

no i dont think they should have the rights to a 2nd chance has the young person who went thought the ordeal dont get a 2nd chance they live with what happend....

and then you give them a 2nd chance they reafend and put another young person though it again ....

they should be put on a police watch list and a regester but alot of these offenders dont go on a reseter cus of vigilantes has people take it into there own hands to deal with it ...

ive often sat back and asked myself what would i do if i found out thre was a sex offender liveing next door to me ... and i honestly dont no what id do ....

sorry about my spelling lol

No second chance for paedophiles. Nobody can change their sexuality, so they cannot and will not reform. All male paedophiles should be castrated.

How can you cross a line that is undefined?

While im on topic, vigilante groups are now vitually a thing of the past and there are very few of these groups in the uk.

Public registers area good idea, but howm any of you would actually check when someone move into your road if they where on the register??

Figure of speech, no more ;)
But you can cross a line that's undefined, you just may not know that you are doing it.

but surely if you are unaware that you have crossed a line, you cease to be guilty of a pre meditated crime? (and wait for it... i do have a point here)

SO, surely we should be giving such people psyciatric (pls excuse the poor spelling) help instead of locking them up??

maybe we should educate them that what they ae doing is wrong?

the Qur'an says (and no i'm not muslim) "for every illness there is a cure" so perhaps we just need to find the cure?
