It was with dismay that I read in the Express that Burnley Borough Council is to support the idea of a Regional Assembly. Not that I have any objection to individual members voting for an assembly if and when there is a referendum. But everyone is supposed to have a vote and it seems a bit premature for local councillors to voice support for the proposal on behalf of the town when they are supposed to represent the people who elected them. So is there any point in our voting if the Council has already made up it's mind? Will they still vote Yes if the majority in the town votes No?

Depends if people are like you and won't let the council make your mind up for you. There will be some councillors on the council who will be against the idea and you can probably guess who they will be and it will be interesting to see how they will air their opposition considering the work they and their activists have done in stopping a comedian doing a show at the mechanics.

75% of the people in the North East gave a resounding no to the proposal. Wonder if Prescott will still go ahead with the other referendums now. What a waste of taxpayers money if he does, it has already cost millions that could have gone into the NHS or schools.
