Default I.D Cards, are they a good idea?

Would carring an I.D card bother you? Is it a good idea to make the carring of one compulsery? What good would it do? Is it an infringment on your civil libities?
We have been told that they are needed to help stop terroism, fruad and people smuggling,is that right?
The cost of the cards varies from £30-£300,so would you be happy picking up the tab?
If you want to go to visit the U.S.A you will need a biermetric visa any way so why not get a card thats got all your info on it?
So what do you think?
I'll make it a poll!

I have to carry I.D with me all the time because of my job visiting vulnerable people in their own home,i think as long as you've nothing to hide there's no problem!
We have to be checked out by the police as well,I think it's sad but in this day and age these cards are neede, but I won't want to pay out any more for one than what I do now for a passport!

Yes i would carry one, but i object to shelling out £££'s when i have already paid for my passport. Iif the government say we have to carry one, then they should pay for them.

I agree with carrying the cards to stop terrorism, illegal immigrants and fraud.

If it stops the scroungers than all be it..............but it shouldn't be dearer than a passport.

I agree with what darkstar said.

IN addition, there are comments on the radio about how our movements will be tracked & recorded, who will have access to the card info & what will be done with it.
I dare say the DPA will be totally rewritten to cope with it too.

no way will I be forking out my money for yet another forgable bit of ID.

I D cards are a good idea with regards to proving identity and to stop fraud. I also agree that if you have done nothing wrong there is nothing to be afraid of. With all the cameras they have on the streets these days and security at the airports etc. the authorities know most of whats going on anyway.
I dont know how things are over there these days, but in Canada, your photo is on the driving licenses, health cards and such. This is in an attempt to stop fraud with illegal immigrants, for example, not being able to abuse the system which I am sure is much more of a problem over there than here.
One major difference is that over here you dont have to pay for these things and I would suggest that the money saved from people abusing the system over there would more than compensate for the cost of these cards.
Just a thought!
:)

>if youve done nothing wrong youve got nothing to hide.

Why do we vote in secret then?

In regards to Beinfit Fraud
The Parliamentary Under-Secretary at the Department of Work and Pensions, Chris Pond MP, confirmed that false identity represented a tiny fraction of the benefit fraud problem. He said his Department advised that of the estimated £2 billion total annual benefit fraud, £50 million came from people not being who they said they were when making a claim.

Will it stop terrorism?
Mosts terrorists live in the country the attack, so they woukd have a valid ID
ID cards did not help in spain with the Madrid Bombings.

Seriously, this is a major attack on our civil liberties, the government has no right ot interfear in our lives unless, there is strong evidece to suspect that we are doing wrong.

I really dont see the point in ID cards. If someone is stopped with out one will he be asked to produce it at a later date by which he could have blown something up or would he be accompanied home where he could show his passport anyway.

Then, theres also the fact that coloured people are more likely to be stopped which is unfair. Why should we all pay for something that isnt really even a good idea.

Anybody want to refute that?

ID cards will not Stop Benifit Fraud
Or that?

Or put forawrd another argument. In my mind their is no way that ID cards are a good idea, and given a while I bet I could change yours too.

no one that I know has accepted them, everyone I speak to does not want them.
