I must agree that there is a lack of respect nowadays from the young, but whose fault is it? 1. The problem could be, the councils for not giving the youth somewhere to go of an evening (enough youth clubs that will channel their energy)? 2. The parents for not teaching them how to respect people of an older generation? 3. The government for not allowing teachers to punish children in schools? 4. The police and courts, Police for not policing the problems areas enough and the courts for not giving stronger punishment? I have a foster daughter who 5 years ago came to live with us, because of her natural parents letting her do what she wanted when she wanted, so long as they had a quiet life, she became what you would call a Yob with no respect for anyone or herself, so much so she was going to be expelled from school for abusive and violent behavior. It took a little time of a strict regime things e.g. bed times, meals, homework and social family times, my wife and I also contacted her school discussed the situation then we worked as a team, I am now pleased to say I am a proud foster dad of an intelligent well behaved young lady, who has done well with her GCSE’s and intends to become a music teacher. Recently I was introduced to 15 year old young lad who is also known in our area as a Yob and yes he is a hoody, after talking to him he is typical of the youth of today no aims, skips school and hangs around the streets, so my wife and I have taken him under our wings, to give him some interest we have given him a job doing our garden, so this way it keeps him off the streets, gives him some money in his pocket, and keeps him occupied. Last night he stayed for tea and he said thank you for trusting him and giving him something to do, He is a really nice lad and I feel he only got into trouble because he was bored. So please don’t tar all the youth wit the same brush, yes you will get some of the youth who are naturally bad, and you will get the sheep who follow them thinking they are cool, but if we can pull those sheep away and show them that good behavior can get them more attention and a purpose in life, then hopefully things could get better for them and us. I feel the government should not only look at the punishment for the bad behavior but they should also tackle the cause and quickly.

It all boils down to lack of discipline and care which ultimately lays the blame partly at the governments door. Teachers are trained to teach these days and nothing more. No discipline, no firm hand no people skills. What about actually talking to kids on a level they understand? What about the reason they got into teaching? Was it to build knowledge and create a better future? Parents are too busy thinking about themselves and ways not to spend time with their kids. The government actively encourages working parents...nothing wrong with that but how must a young child feel when he or she only sees their parent or parents for an hour in a morning when they are rushing about getting them dressed etc and then an hour at night when the parent is tired and wants nothing more than to feed the kids and pack em off to bed. 99% of the stress time is spent shouting at the kids to hurry up or shut up etc. I firmly believe that for a child to be well grounded they have to be nurtured and encouraged right from day one. If they are constantly fed negative thoughts and feelings then they themselves will continue the cycle. So, that leaves the question of how todays parents of todays teenagers behaving badly were raised?

I have been saying for years that parents are responsible for the wrong doing of their offspring. They should be punished for it too. There is a total lack of discipline, thanks to the nanny state. Kids can't be smacked at home or at school. It did us no harm.

I work and help teachers in school, I see the way students are with teachers alot of the way children behave start sat home with lack of discipline and i dont believe that should be done with smacking. A child should be shown trust and learn to respect adults!Just knowing how far parents will go and parents when to guide them and teach them when they have gone to far! There are excellent teachers out there who want to teach and help but are stressed with children who need to buck up and stop being so silly!

I have worked in three, top Independant Schools over the past 9 years. Teachers do a smashing job and not many realise how hard they work. Teachers hands are tied where discipline is concerned. A good wack does nobody any harm. Indeed the total lack of enforcable discipline is responsible for the yob culture of today. Years ago, many of us had far less than kids do now, yet many now run wild. Parents are responsible for these yobs and, as you cannot prosecute the child, the parent should therefore be prosecuted.

| i am not a bully but i realy DO think that sometimes a child neads a smack .it has to know whats right and wrong , if you cant control a 5 year old ,what chance have you of getting respect from a 15 year old.. you have to nip in the bud bad behaviour from your children when they are very young ,but you must also praise them and tell them well done when they deserve it too.a child must feel secure in the love of its parents ,,,

I saw something on the tv last week about raiseing the age of being leagaly responcible,in England the law's ten years of age before you know what your doing is wrong, and the "Do gooder brigade" say that's far too young!!! and it should be sixteen yrs!!! Am I wrong in thinking that kids these days are much more advanced in their years, and now know right from wrong much younger than when this law was passed, and it should be lowerd rather than raised ??? Do you agree or am I talking rubbish??? Any youngsters out there with a view? I know we get young'uns on here??? Are you getting a bad rap man??? .
