Random checks for dirty hospital wards The Government is to send independent investigators into hospitals in the latest move to combat deadly superbug infections.Unannounced, random spot-checks will be done at 100 acute, community and mental health hospitals in the NHS and independent sectors.
The announcement comes just days before the Government is due to publish latest figures on the MRSA superbug.
Commission inspectors will mostly target trusts previously identified as performing badly on cleanliness but they will also visit less dirty hospitals.Wards, outpatient areas and accident and emergency departments will face inspection.
The commission has sweeping powers to gain access to buildings and hospital chief executives were notified on Friday that they may be subject to the random checks.
Healthcare Commission chief executive Anna Walker said: "Patients and the public tell us they are concerned about cleanliness. There is a real danger that this issue could damage confidence in healthcare." I HAVEN'T FOUND BURNLEY GENERAL TO BE DIRTY..............HAVE ANY OF YOU? |
