Misenterpritations(Saying the wrong thing)

I had this Aunty who always said the wrong things!not nastily but humoursley,i was about ten years old at the time and going past a spastic collection box simIlar to the Peter Kay type,!She said to me put that,( which was probably the equivalent of a fifty pence piece i nto the box! )for them there plastic children!never forgotten that !

years ago my mother in law once had us going round in circles on holiday at cayton bay near scarbourough ,,,,she asked us to meet her at the
ren dev er us,,,,,,,,,,,after looking for this pub for ages we realised that she meant the rendevous...then she complained coz we were late ,,

I think of Hilda Baker again when i hear people get wrong word mixups and must admit to being guilty of doing them myself! :o

Hida Baker (can't remember the name of the show, but I remember the show itself) was modelled on Mrs. Malaprop, as have been other characters in comedy shows. Mis-using a word is called malapropism from the play by Sheridan (more info here).

just been watching a paul o grady show that i had taped,,and the actress who plays marina in last of the summer wine was doing a superb job acting as hilda baker and paul was doing cynthia her sidekick..they were just like the real thing.

i think we have all done it or sometime or another i tend to say things but not in a nasty way just as a warning but people take offence!! lol must be me
