i have just watched the state opening of parliment ,and i was enthralled as usual at the wonderful pagentry .where else in all the world but england do you see the wonderful pomp and ceremony ..how can people like lord hattersley want rid of it ..i think it would be a very sad day if we lost the monachey ......WHATS YOUR VIEW .?

It's all very nice for the tourists,but I'm of the opinion that it's out dated and no one's born to rule,I'm happy to wait till the Queen goes then I'd pack em all off to Disney land! :)

i think i am from the old school ,i love to watch anything that includes the guards and the horses etc,the changing of the guard attracts thousands of visitors every year..

Like as been stated the royalty are good for tourism, but as for them being necessary i don't think so. As we only have a figure head monarchy and not an autocratic one.
The real power lies in the money behind the government, or do people really believe that the M.P.'s are there for our benefit?, Sorry wanderd a little off topic then:)

It's pure theatre all that refusing the bloke in tights at the door. It probably meant something at one time, but it's just a load of crap - nothing to do with the world we live in now.

no i see your point darkstar,,,i just love the spectical of the show..i once went to the trooping of the colour and then to the royal tournament .the atmosphere was electric. :) .it would be so sad if these things went ,,,,,,,,,,,,but a lot of people dont like it ,,,,
