Default CAR DRIVERS - DEBATE and DISCUSS

I CAN'T BE DOING WITH CAR DRIVERS. I FIND THEM AROGENT, ANNOYING, SELFISH AND DOWN RIGHT BLOODY DANGEROUS1 (SWEEPING STATEMENT I KNOW)
THEY IRRITATE ME BECAUSE
1, THEY KEEP PARKING ON THE PAVEMENT. (THEY SAY) THERE IS CAR ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE ROAD, AND SO WE HAVE TO, TO LET TRAFFIC GET PAST- (I SAY) IT USED TO BE CALLED DOUBLE-PARKING!!! PARK FURTHER UP THE ROAD AND WALK 5 YARDS. HOW WOULD YOU LIKE IT IF I KEPT WALKING DOWN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD?????
2, THEY NEVER SEEM TO WANT TO SLOW DOWN AT ZEBRA CROSSINGS ANY MORE - YOU DO NOT OWN THE ROADS YOU KNOW
3, THEY NEVER BLOODY INDICATE - HOW HARD IS IT TO MOVE THAT LITTLE STICK ON YOUR STEERING COLUMN - I CAN INDICATE IN A GALE ON MY PUSHY, WHY CAN'T YOU
AND THAT'S JUST FOR STARTERS :yelrotflm

AFAIK They are not required to.
Unless a pedestrian is either on or has a foot on a zebra crossing they are not obliged to slow down & stop at it. :D

Do I take it that you always walk, cycle or catch the bus & never drive?

that is true in Europe - unless they have changed the rules (possible)
In UK, the pedestrian always had right of way!!!!!!!
Even if has changed in UK - what the bloody hell does a car driver think a pedestrian is doing at a zebra crossing if not wanting to cross?????
I have been on crossings and as a car whizzes passed me THEY look at ME as if I am in the wrong!!!!! And no they weren't goin too fast to stop before you say
Car drivers are selfish, arrogant, and NEVER EVER EVER in the wrong!

Blimey Digsy, you get out of the wrong side of bed or what?

I'm a 'bloody' car driver lol, I also ride a bike and walk, had to use the train the last time the oil terminals were blockaded - never again if I can help it! but agree wholeheartedly with most of what digsyboy has said. I'm fed up of inconsiderate parking/drivers 'saving' the bulbs in their indicator lights and not stopping for 'pedheads' .
I have no sympathy for people who get booked legitimitly for illegal parking - I'd clamp down on the school run, where parents 'abandon' their cars willy nilly as close as physically possible to the school gate so that their darlings don't have to expell any excess energy by actually walking.
You take your life in your hands crossing at a zebra sometimes - and it's true, you only have the right of way if you are on or have a foot on the crossing - mad isn't it? But I checked this out a while back in the highway code 'cos I'd always thought the ped had the right of way.
I always stop anyway if I can do it safely - does bug me though when people hang about at crossings not intending to cross, but looking like they want to!
The only thing I'm not in total agreement about is the issue of speed cameras, they can work as a deterrant when used in the right places - but how can you be concentrating on the road ahead while driving through an 'accident blackspot' when you are checking your speed and keeping up with the traffic flow? I know you shouldn't go over the limit at all, but have you tried this with an artic 5mm off your back bumper? Speed cameras have been abused, in order to make money - that's why people don't like them.
I've lost count of the times I've seen people run/ride cycles at night (with no lights) into the path of oncoming traffic, I'd like to see something being done to educate people about the dangers of this - I know it seems like common sense, and it is for most of us, but it's not getting through to some people!

hehehe - totally agree that some peds and cyclists are pillocks too - no doubt
but this is a rant at car drivers - will need another thread for the other two

Another thing that does my head in is when cardrivers get out of their fume pumping machines to get a pack of fags or sommat from a shop and leave their engine running - why?

Search me?? - unless they have a turbocharged car and have been thrashing it beforehand there really is no need.

AFAIK The highway code has ALWAYS specified that a driver does not HAVE to stop unless someone is actually on a zebra crossing, this has been the case for the last 23 driving years that I can remember.

It is an uncontrolled crossing that relies on the driver stopping before the pedestrian is able to cross.
Now if your on about pelican or toucan crossings, they are different as they are light controlled and the driver MUST stop when the lights change.

If a pedestrian loses a leg for crossing when it is unsafe to do so, this is called an accident & although the pedestrian gets hurt, the driver gets blamed & prosecuted even if it is the pedestrians fault because they did not use the crossing properly.

AT least if you see a car you can often tell with good certainty where it may be going, usually along the road, pedesatrians go all over the place, without any warning and cause many hazards. I'm with what ollie said.
And col k, and Digsy... lol

Have a nice day now.....
