Default help with directions please!

Going to pick up a friend from Totnes this Monday, have downloaded directions from Mapquest and Google, Mapquest tells me to go on M65 then take M66 which means leaving M65 at junction 8, Google is telling me not even to take M65 but to travel through Bacup and Rawtenstall to join M66. I am pretty thick where driving is concerned but would it not be easier to join M65 and follow signs on there instead of ever leaving it? Or am I really stupid?

It's because the M66/M60 route to the M6 southbound is slightly shorter than the M65 past Preston and the route maps generally give you the shortest route first.

Personally I would just use the M65 straight down to the M6.

it is by far best to do this when we first moved up we were doing this trip at least once a week and tried every computation.

definitely M65 and M6, the shortest rout is not always best.
best of luck wit the trip.
P.S. Be careful not to overshoot on M65 we went round and round Preston on one of our early trips, we missed the M6 turn.

Just a precautionary note. When you get are approaching Birmingham make sure you take notice of the signs for the M5. When the road splits for M6 toll those lanes are on the right hand side which makes people think they are still using the old M6. You need to stick to the left lanes for the M5
