Quote:
Police in Lancashire have issued a warning to motorists over a "cash for crash" con in which drivers deliberately bump other cars.
The fraudsters have been operating in the Blackburn area.
Lancashire police said drivers carry out an unnecessary emergency stop in busy areas, causing the driver behind to hit them.
The driver then claims on the innocent motorist's insurance, with several accounts of fictitious injuries. 'Dangerous and illegal'
Insp Claire Holbrook, of Lancashire Police, said: "Crash for cash scams are dangerous and illegal and will not be tolerated in Blackburn.
"Criminal gangs involved in this scam are targeting honest and law-abiding motorists and are putting people's lives at risk."
Police advise drivers to be aware of other motorists driving very close behind them, especially at roundabouts or slip roads.
If an accident does happen, police advise motorists to take down as much detail as possible, including full names, addresses and dates of birth of everyone involved.
