| What are the chances of having Residents Parking on my street? I've e-mailed the council and i'm now waiting to see what I need to do next. Where I live, most people have one car. However, 3 or 4 people have two cars and insist on placing both outside their homes. One person even has two cars and a large company van which is parked on the streets most times. As well as this, we also have people visiting the shops and bookies parking their cars on the street even though these facilities are on another street. I end up having to park my car either down the end of the street, on another street or on the back street. The last time I parked on the back street, someone tried to break in to my car resulting in severe damage to the lock and door. It was cheaper to get a new car, as the cost wasn't worth it. Why are people so ignorant? Why can't people with two cars either buy a house with a drive (As they can afford two cars - LOL) or park one somewhere else? Some people just moved in recently and they have two cars. Both have been sat outside my house for nearly a week meaning I can't park even though they live opposite. I'm quite courteous and if I ever saw anyone struggling to park i'd move my car forward or backwards to try and let them squeeze in. I'd also make sure that if I did run two cars, i'd buy a house with a drive or park one somewhere else.

| I have just moved from a street where most households have two cars, mine included but I always tried to park one outside the house and the other on the gable end. Have to say what annoyes me most is people parking leaving 3/4 of a space in front and behind. Two or three park like that on a street and its impossible! |

| The people who have just moved in live on a gable end and they can park one of their cars next to their house as that part of the back street can not be navigated so it wont cause an obstruction to anyone. It's also under a new street lamp and can be seen from the main street.

| Im lucky then am i? I have a driveway, a garage and i dont have a car! About 5 years ago the council did the outside of the houses up and gardens and if the house didnt have a driveway they put one in - even if you didnt have a car! So now all our houses have driveways. Even if really there wasnt room for one they still put one in one of them takes up near enough the whole of their front garden.

| Neil You may find this link interesting. It's not very helpful, however, considering it's these people (I think) who determine whether or not residents can have Residents Only parking. http://www.lancashirehighwayspartner...&scid=33&cid=2 |

| Neal, Residents-only parking is generally possible provided that capital funding can be found from somewhere for the signage and road markings. The annual costs of administering the scheme are met by residents, who pay about £15 pa for the first car and about £25 pa for each car thereafter. However, this still doesn't guarantee you a space. I'm a councillor for the Queensgate ward, and had a residents parking scheme pulled because residents had not had this explained to them. All the payment does is exempt you from fines when the warden comes round. There's no limit on the number of tickets sold, provided they're bought by residents. You can also buy visitors' tickets. It's a thorny problem, but in my ward we generally solve it through dialogue. I've had problems with the local hospital and more recently a large company and the school development on Barden Lane. We dealt with the hospital through communicating with the hospital management. Now, the hospital has just secured planning permission for a further 170 spaces on the edge of the grounds, and in Spring will begin demolition work on some old buildings to make way for yet further spaces. We're taking the same approach with the other problems. We also managed to create a couple of extra spaces for residents by having some yellow lines shortened. I'd suggest trying dialogue first. Only pursue residents' parking in the last resort. Cheers, Cllr Darren Reynolds |

| @Cllr Darren Reynolds Hi Darren I understand the problems with parking and the wish for certain residents for residents only parking, what I am uncertain about is the ratio of acceptance by local residents before such a scheme is accepted (100%, 75%?) and who polices the scheme e.g. if it's Parkwise who pays for their servivces the local residents or all ratepayers Brian:goodmorning: |

I feel that it will just be another money making scheme for the Council. And when ParkWise finish around 6pm / 8pm, who enforces it at night?
