Why can't you tell your midwife to go to hell? I would. She's probably had a lot worse said to her anyway!
How far gone is your wife? Has she had a visit from the Health Visitor yet? They usually come before the baby is born, to introduce themselves. Ask them what there opinion is and why your midwife is under the impression to get rid of your dog.

If you are nervous of your midwife, just keep the dog out of the way when she comes.

ive told many a midwife to go to hell they usually talk a lot of crap anyhow.
its got nothing to do with her its your house your family your dog you say what goes not her

I've done the same with health visitors. Most talk out of their backside and are little power mad hilters.

couldnt agree with you more i tell them to go away lol after 4 kids i dont need a nosey busybody telling me what to do and how to bring up my babies and what to do in my life stupid some of them are

my health visitor gave me an informative talk on how to spread sudocream on Alice's red bottom, to do it very sparing to allow the skin to breath, and how nappy rash is due to the ammonia in the urine, which, ok is useful to know, but I'm a nurse for christ sake, and if I didnt know that after being qualified for 8 years, well, I need to be struck off! my H.V knows what job I do, but she still lectures me on various things, then says, whoops, I'm telling you to suck eggs, aren't I? Yes, they have a job to do, but save it for the people who dont have the faintest idea on how to bring their kids up, and actually need help all the time.
Back to the dog thing, keep it, tell your midwife if she doesnt like it, stick it where the sun dont shine! Your house, your baby, your responsibility. You know what your dog is like, and if you had any doubts about your baby's safety with the dog, I would imagine you would have got rid of the dog when your wife got pregnant.
