I work in a school in Blackburn and I would have thought being male was an advantage - there is a real shortage of men in primary schools as well as a shortage of positive male role models on the home.
Have a look at the Blackburn with Darwen Website or the Lancashire county council Bulletin.

The problem is that there are only 1% of men employed as Teaching Assistants in primary schools. Everyone knows that there are a shortage of male role models, yet the schools seem to ignore this and prefer to employ women. I've had loads of interviews which I have done well in, I put in really good, professional applications, I even hold a relevant degree, but I always seem to get turned down. I am pretty sure that if I was female I would have been given the job.

to become a teacher now you need a degree or take extra courses for the qualification.

I would love to get a job as an IT teacher, but there is so much work involved
