there are some who knock Nelson but I liked it and would go back again as I'd said in my earlier posts, sometimes I'd go down Nelson Youth club, not a bad craic down there ether.

I've changed the topic quite a bit I must be careful not to get told off!

Shaw Just out side of oldham it's self still comes under oldham same as brierfield comes under pendle.

lol it should be me telling you off being admin an all lol.
yeah i used to go down nelson youthy aswel the good old days.
not been back to nelson really since my mum died holds too many good and bad memories for me there.
used to be a great place when i was a kid i have family still there who say its improved over the last 5 years or so.

youthy, wow not heard that saying for ages takes me back lol, yeah its seen some change in recent times some good some not as good, remember the grand cinema? watched a few films there now been demolished new building standing there now, rumor has it that the council are moving into part of it, typical!

we were up near stoneleigh park used to be quite nice til chavs over ran it lol

aye i remember the grand and the pictures at brierfield watched many a film at them both.
the grand was a lovely building aswel seems a shame.
all the open market has gone now hasnt it?
its such a shame its part of my childhood all that :(

I remember going to see a film on a school trip one tuesday or wednesday afternoon, as for the grand seen numerous films there to, around 1996 it was turned in to a nightclub then it was burned down, variours rumors about how it happened have been flying around, butts bits and bytes,bunnys, and a shoe shop had all been destroyed by the blaze.

Bancrofts hardware etc, microtech,all moved out since demolishon of overall building, I read about it as the weavers institute I think it was was to lose it's home after being long established there.

As for the market the is a bit of a market but the market all we remember it behind the grand all went with the blaze, not the first blaze there appently there was one in 1932 which caused extensive damage. Remember the music stall in the lower arndale run by Kevin?

Yes! I was born (delivered by a one-legged midwife) in a row house -- 5 Duckett Terrace (long since torn down) in Burnley on 28 August 1929. I grew up during the Depression and through WW2 and the post-war years at 33 Rossetti Avenue -- those were the best and most enjoyable years of my life. Burnley was a great place to live in those days.
